Spartans are ready to fill SFL void, insists Edinburgh club's director of football

SPARTANS director of football Andy Nixon insists his club are ready to fill the void if Rangers newco are denied entry to the SFL.

The Edinburgh side believe they meet all the criteria for admission to the Third Division, including three years of audited accounts.

That’s something the reformed Ibrox club can’t provide ahead of Friday’s crunch meeting about their future in the lower leagues after being denied entry to the SPL.

And although Nixon is refusing to get ahead of himself, he believes Spartans would thrive if they were handed a place in the SFL.

He said: “As it stands there is no current vacancy in the SFL. But it’s clearly something that is changing on a daily basis and is a real moveable feast.

“We are watching with interest as we are keen to play at as high a level as we can. Make no bones about it, as a club we are very ambitious and want to get in the league.

“We will have our licence shortly, our ground meets the criteria and we have three years of accounts so everything is in place.

“We have space for 3500 fans and once hosted Manchester United. We also have 600 kids wearing our strip every weekend.

“We will soon tick all the boxes needed to be accepted by the league.

“Whether that’s now or later we don’t know. We’re not ruling anything in or out right now.”

Now Spartans chairman Craig Graham was part of the SFA panel that kept the transfer embargo, surely Spartans end game is a conflict of interests?

not even going to read it as it will never happen . best just close the thread now

If we went down this line of thought, every thread in the bear den would be closed.

It's a conflict of interests against our club, considering. We still have a retrial with the SFA coming up. Spartans involvement may just give us some more leverage against the SFA for a more lenient sanction down the line.

I live 2 minutes round from Spartans ground, never seen anyone with a Spartans kit kicking about and I don't think they have 600 youths on their books.... Nonetheless, they are more than ready to get in to the sfl.
