Quite simply, we were too deep.
The tactics were sound (let them huff and puff until they’re exhausted and hit on the break) but, for it to work, we had to be right on top of them.
They were given space to collect the ball, compose themselves, consider their options and then play a pass or run at us. By contrast, our players got a pass and the ball at the same time. They were really sharp at closing us and the fact that we were so deep meant that they had less area to contain/close.
Twenty yards further forward and much tighter marking would have made them less comfortable.

The first booking for the two players Clancy had the yellow card out before he reached them and neither player should have been booked.  Second yellow wasn't even a foul.  Brown should have been booked for simulation.
