  1. At this stage in our journey he is worth working with to see how things transpire. If he gets us back to the SPFL then it would be a big gamble replacing him. The players are responding to him and he is getting more out of them than McCoist and McDowall. He may not be ideal long term but until major investment comes in we don't have a long term.
  2. My worry is that we have lost thousands of fans (for various reasons) who won't be back. McCoist and his shite brand of football being the biggest cause. Yes it is improving but it won't get better until we return to the SPFL. I think the days of 45 to 50k are gone (for now). Fans of all clubs like to see good football and footballers. They want fun and entertainment as well as seeing their team winning. Throughout history most clubs attendances have went up when this happens and go down when it doesn't. We have a hardcore fanbase of around 25k who will turn up week in week out. The rest will return in some shape or form when things improve on and off the park.
  3. At 22 he doesn't look to me as if he is Newcastle's plans. I also don't think he has the pace required to play at EPL level. Yes he is talented and an intelligent player but not at the level he wants to play at. I also think he is too good for us in our present state and a championship side will probably offer him silly money that we cannot compete with sadly.
  4. Archie McPherson is probably the last of what i would call genuine sports commentators. No bias, no agenda just a professional who would speak honestly on any subject regardless of who or what it entailed. You knew that if he slagged off Rangers or the fans it was because it was merited and not gratuitous. Same with the bheasts or anyone in the game. Sadly he belongs to an era that didn't have a chip on its shoulder
  5. This article merely reinforces (sadly) what we and others have been saying for years. There is NO ONE in the media, NO ONE in politics and NO ONE in the judiciary prepared to tackle the mountain of evidence we give them. So when you vote SNP or you vote a catholic/Celtic suporting Labour MSP you get what you vote for. And that's not paranoia or bigoted to point out the obvious.
  6. I don't think Ibrox will be full for a long time.
  7. He was done for drink driving yesterday at Dumbarton Sheriff Court. Banned for 1 year and fined £400. They claim he jumped before he was pushed. I am sure Snyde will have another "on message" presenter lined up to carry on the traditions of the last 20 years. Cooney, Martin, Delahunt, McCulloch...almost as big a co-incidence as a non protestant Lord Provost of Glasgow.
  8. Irrespective of what other clubs do it is obvious that we have to change what we do. Ultimately it will cost a lot of money to implement the kind of ideas and concepts required to produce good youth players. Do we persist with a fancy training ground or do we go down the road of a proper youth academy. The scouting network is essential though because without it you will never find the raw talent to work with. 3 years ago we had the once in a lifetime alignment of all the conditions required to put 100% effort in to this and we ignored it. I just hope that sometime in the future i watch a Rangers team that can hold its own with the best in Europe. And at least tries to rear footballers instead of athletes.
  9. A mix of both is essential for a good team spirit. Can't be all work work work. McCoist's reign was far too lax and predictable. And the one vital ingredient missing was ...hope. Players at all levels from about 17's up need hope. They now have it with a manager who is prepared to play them IF they bring something better to the team than is already there.
  10. It was rumoured on RTV by Tom and DJ that they were both leaving at the end of the month. I can't see any way back now for McCoist. FINGERS CROSSED
  11. A "holiday" camcorder will do fine as long as it records in HD. It's the rendering and editing software that's the key and getting someone who knows what they are doing.
  12. The entire mentality in Scotland from managers, coaches, players and fans is predominantly stuck in the dark ages. A proper youth academy costs millions to run each year. Bottom line as per usual is can we afford it or will we forever do what we have done?
  13. No player in our squad should ever have felt they didn't need to worry about their place in the team. Sure the better players would invariably get more games but not through favours. McCoist gave no incentives to players outside his favourites hence why results and performances got worse. Players need competition and an intensity to their training. Above all though they need to know their manager believes in them and will play them when it's merited.
  14. I bet there were plenty in the squad totally disillusioned with life at Rangers. As with all clubs there are players who will speak and some who won't. I doubt we will hear much from Templeton though because it looks to me like he is the problem not the manager. That's 3 managers who have left him on the bench. Clark has been given a run as has Shiels. Murdoch and Walsh are getting game time. And it appears the majority of the squad are responding to McCall's openness and fresh ideas.
  15. Quite correct. I was however looking at it as the main reason why we ended up a shambles of a team. No matter how hard he tried in training he knew deep down he wouldn't play. That has changed and i would imagine Shiels isn't the only player benfitting as a result. Actually quite shameful that there was no competition meaning players were guaranteed a game every week.
  16. I am looking at Dustin Johnson as the one to watch this year.
  17. DEAN SHIELS says that there has been an increase in competitiveness within the Rangers squad as players fight for their place in the starting eleven. Stuart McCall’s tenure at the club started to bear fruit yesterday as the Gers defeated in-form Hibernian at Easter Road – Northern Irishman Shiels’ old stomping ground. Shiels has now started the last two games under McCall and he says that the playing squad are grasping the opportunity of a fresh start. He said: “I think everyone got a lift when the new management team came in. “It's a fresh start for everyone in the squad and I think you can see that because the players are working extra hard in training because they know there are places up for grabs. “Everyone wants the jersey and at a club like Rangers that's what you need. You need competitiveness, you need a big squad, you need people fighting for places and I think we've got that now. “Hopefully we can look forward now and start to forget about the first half of the season. That's at the back of our minds now we have a win against Hibs, we're looking forward and not backwards.” Before returning to the starting eleven under McCall for the match against Alloa at Ibrox, Shiels hadn’t featured since the match against Queen of the South in December. He said: “Stuart McCall has given me a lift personally as he's come in and played me which is a good start. I wasn't getting much playing time before and he's put a bit of confidence in me by putting me in the team. “I'm happy with how things have gone so far and hopefully I can just continue to enjoy my football because the performances will come from that. “You enjoy the feeling of going to somewhere like Easter Road and getting a win together as a group. I'm back in the team now and I'm not thinking about going back out of it again. “I want to stay in the side and I want to progress and get to my best form so that I can help the team and the club. I'm desperate for us to go up this season and I'll be doing everything that I can to try to make that happen.” McCall and his assistant Kenny Black have been working with the squad for just under a fortnight and Shiels says that there has been a noticeable change both on the pitch and at Murray Park. He added: “There have been big changes here since Stuart McCall and Kenny Black came in, mainly on the pitch and also on the training ground. “Every manager and coach has different ways of working and they have come in with fresh impetus and fresh ideas that we've not had under the last management team. “Every management team is different and hopefully it will be for the positive and the lads have all responded well to it so far.”
  18. He is correct in that the team has suffered with his removal. However he wouldn't have figured for us if he had stayed due to his ongoing injury problem. A midfield of MacLeod, Murdoch, Walsh and a real defensive enforcer would have been interesting.
  19. I remember that well. The playboy star of the future. Good looks, pace and a fucking awful footballer...
  20. Rangers have always had about 20,000 loyal fans. And like teams all over the world the attendances increase when we are successful and decrease when we are not.
  21. Your last few lines sum it up perfectly. I feel King and Murray have blundered big time unless they already have the new manager waiting in the wings and McCall knows this. If they don't then we are in even bigger trouble than we think
  22. Sadly the fans reactions will never change. You could have Messi and Ronaldo up front and some would give them dogs abuse for the first slack pass. I do think however it wouldn't be as much of a problem if it was 11 players who the fans felt were giving their all. Were 100% fit and who showed their emotions when things aren't maybe going all that well. As for the out of contract players....having so many at the same time has made his job near impossible. He is relying on the bulk of them to do something they haven't been able to do for a long time.
  23. Like i said earlier how do you motivate 13 players who are out of contract. Not only that but they know you don't have any power to decide if they get a new one or not? Yes professional pride should still be there but only in exceptional players does that happen. I would say the vast majority want out and will be relieved when the end of the season happens. I still feel that a few tweaks here and there though will still yield results. Plus he needs to hope some of the Newcastle lads can actually get fit enough to play in a few games as well. Moving McCulloch to midfield or even up front would be a start if he is as undroppable as many think. Bringing in more pace to the defence so they can squeeze the game higher up the park is a must. Problem being he doesn't have an abundance of options to choose from.
