  1. Currently working on the final chapter of my Rangers memories book, starting in the 1940s, I’m now covering the somewhat tumultuous last two years. I’ve had some great contributions from over 120 Bears, but need a few more ... looking for some reflections on how you felt as Craig Whyte led us to administration, the failure of the CVA and the inevitable liquidation process. It’s not a great time in our history, but one that needs to be recorded. What were the emotions at the time; fear, concern, panic, confidence that we’d pull through. I’d love to hear from some of the older supporters, guys who have been going to Ibrox for years, but “youngsters” comments are also welcome. It would also be good to hear from supporters who have returned to the Rangers, with their sons and daughters. How did it feel to be introducing a new generation to the best team in the world. As I said, it’s a pretty open topic, feel free to e-mail me, PM about your feelings for the Rangers. The more I get, the better the book will hopefully be. All proceeds of the book, after publishing and other expenses, will be split between the Scottish War Blind and the Rangers Charity Foundation. Hoping to have the book ready to have a final proofread and then go to the publishers at the end of May, for a start of season release. So probably need any stuff in for the end of April. e-mail: rangers_memories@hotmail.co.uk see www.its-off-to-the-match.co.uk for a few more details on the Scottish war blind + stuff on my first book ... still available!
  2. Rennes 1 Rangers 1 Rangers 1 Rennes 0 Rangers 3 Sporting Lisbon 2 Sporting Lisbon 4 Rangers 3 (after extra time) ... Rangers lost on penalty kicks and were out of Europe. Ooops ... Rangers win on away goals. Torino 1 Rangers 1 Rangers 1 Torino 0 Bayern 1 Rangers 1 Rangers 2 Bayern 0
  3. Rangers were on STV, the Tims were on BBC ... I was at Ibrox
  4. Couldn't keep a clean sheet ... I take it Davie Weir was injured that day.
  5. Costs covered for Its off to the match I go, anything sold now goes to the Scottish War Blind. All proceeds of the new book, Rangers memories, will be split between the Scottish War Bland and the Rangers charity foundation. I dont have an official publisher, so have to go down the self-publishing route, which means paying all the costs myself up front, once thats covered then the charities will benefit.
  6. www.its-off-to-the-match.co.uk Not a blog ... website for my book, but has some pictures and stuff that folk might not have seen before. Proceeds to a good cause if you fancy a book
  7. Johan Cruyff gave a master class at Ibrox in the first game. www.its-off-to-the-match.co.uk
  8. I spent the night in the station as well ... a cold and hard floor.
  9. Still putting together my Rangers memories book ... nearly done now! Still looking for some stories about the UEFA cup final ... like most supporters I try to forget the actual ninety minutes of the game, preferring to remember the trip down and the afternoon in the city. If anyone has any little stories about the day, trip down etc, feel free to get in touch, PM here or e-mail rangers_memories@hotmail.co.uk It was a big day in our modern history and needs a good few pages in the book ... any other stories welcome as well ... favourite game, player, trip, anything really! All proceeds after expences will be split between the Scottish War Blind and the Rangers charity foundation. www.its-off-to-the-match.co.uk
  10. Pretty sure it was the 1969/1970 Scottish Cup game at Parkhead, Rangers went 1-0 ahead with the Jim Craig og ... sadly we lost 3-1
  11. Christmas Day 1971 Hibs 0 Rangers 1 ... Colin Stein last minute goal. Me Mammy wouldn't let me go www.its-off-to-the-match.co.uk
  12. My granddad's club, I hope they survive. Dundee United on the other hand
  13. You dont have to buy a book to a review, you only have to is have an Amazon account, and have bought a book from Amazon, or downloaded something for Kindle. If you havn't purchased anything to get you active, then www.its-off-to-the-match.co.uk is a good place to start.
  14. The first stories I have came from the 1940s, good wee story from an Old Firm game, Celtic fans dispute a penalty and start a riot, shock horror! So happy to take stories from all times. I've completed chapters up to McLeish / Le Guen / Walter but its no problem to go back and add stuff in. Fire in what you have, the more I get, the better the book will, hopefully be.
  15. Bashing on with my new book on Rangers memories – a look at Rangers history, key games, players, events etc, looking at them from a supporters prospective. Started with some memories from the 1940s, now gathering together some stuff for the era that covers Alex McLeish’s last season, Paul Le Guen and then Walter’s return. If anyone has any stories, recollections, reflections on that time, feel free to post them, or PM, or e-mail rangers_memories@hotmail.co.uk Any other memories will be good also. I'll obviously be looking at the current situation and would love a few contributions from long time supporters, the Old Codger Loyal, how do those supporters feel about, Administration, Liquidation etc. Going to split all proceeds, after expences to the Scottish War Blind and the Rangers charity foundation. Hoped to have the book done for Xmas, but that clearly wont be happening, more likely now to be towards the end of the season, with another League Title ... 54 and still going strong for any lurking Timposters. www.its-off-to-the-match.co.uk
  16. Some pictures from this evening, not the best, always harder under floodlights. The equalizer 2-2 Penalty 2-3
  17. I suspect that a Sun Journo writes the column in an Andy Goram style. The Goalie gets the dosh, the Sun get their piece written on time and regularly, and everyone is happy ... except the Rangers support who have to read the drivel.
  18. Looking for any memories, stories, and anecdotes relating the Advocaat first season victory at Parkhead. You know the one ... 3-0 to the Gers, Sephan Mahe sent off, Dallas skelped by a coin, Timmy sky-diving from the top deck. Neil McCann 1-0, George Albertz 2-0, then Neil McCann rounds the keeper and rolls the ball into the net ... running past a host of revolting Celtic fans, to celebrate with the Teddy Bears. Need a few recollections for my on-going book on Rangers memories; it’s too big a game not to be marked with a few happy memories. Book hopefully to be published early in the New Year, all proceeds after expenses going to the Scottish War Blind. Post here, or e-mail to : rangers_memories@hotmail.co.uk More details available on request. www.its-off-to-the-match.co.uk
  19. Its off to the match I go ... a fine book I'm told, is available on Kindle. www.its-off-to-the-match.co.uk
  20. Broken ankle is seems. Cancel that, shouldn't listen to rumours.
  21. Showman he certainly was, but sadly it was some showboating that brought about his broken leg in Vienna, putting the ball through a defender's legs in the last minute.
  22. The Glasgow Cup final that many are trying to recall was the 1969/1970 final, not played though till August 10th the next season. We played pretty much a full strength side, with the exception of a goalie by the name of Robert Watson, don’t recall him at all. A bit of mythology has developed over the Celtic team, with Tims claiming it was a reserve team. There were certainly a few youngsters in it, but six of the team had played in the 1970 European Cup final, Jim Craig in the European Cup semi final, so it was hardly second string. They won 3-1 with two goals from the well known youngster Tommy Gemmell and one from Jimmy Quinn who'd been with Celtic since 1963.
