Unfortunately, I think we’ve been at least a level below them for some time. If you want to talk about Europe, while we’ve had some excellent runs, Seville in particular, when we competed in the same competition as them last season we were the worst team ever in the competition, in one season.

So you think the gap between us both since 2018 has been big enough to justify them winning 3 trebles and a double in that timescale to our two trophies ? The squads we have had in that timeframe weren’t at least capable of delivering a few more domestic cups or even another title ?

One fluke season for St Johnstone. Let’s not kid ourselves on.

Call it making excuses if you want, but having a a relatively low quality of team mates can only have a detrimental effect.

But I don’t think it has been that much lower in quality than our main opposition since 2018. That’s the main point I am trying to make . We have outperformed them in Europe in just about every season in the same timescale so why have we failed to match them on the domestic front ? Why are we the ones who always seem to be playing catch up in the league  ?

No, I’m using to highlight the difference in quality of player Tav, for example, plays alongside and how that has affected his trophy count. I don’t think a back four of Tav, Gough, Brown and Robertson would have been lacking in trophies.

But has the quality Tav is surrounded by since 2018 and Gerrards arrival really been so bad compared to Celtic that it justifies their trophy return compared to ours and our overall dreadful Hampden record in the same time ? I don’t think it has

Yeah, it’s clearly Tav’s fault he isn’t playing alongside players the quality of Goram, Gough, Robertson, Ferguson, McCall, Miko, Steven, Durrant, McCoist and Hateley. I don’t think we’d have won any more trophies if we had Malcom, Ross and Murray in the squad.

I don’t agree with the comparing against arguably our pinaccle as a club in the 90s and using it as an excuse to justify our piss poor domestic trophy return as of late . Celtic aren’t operating at the same calibre of player they were twenty years ago either. They have just been allowed to hover up most trophies before them over the last 8 years because of our piss poor mentality in that time . There is no excuses for us not landing a couple of more league cups and Scottish cups from Gerrard’s arrival onwards.

    Well said Bomber.

A journalist with a set of balls should ask him the question would it look good for Scottish football to ignore a clear and obvious last minute penalty just because it’s Rangers ?

After every defeat or draw we get this title trotted out about certain members of our squad, mainly Goldson, Tav, Barasic etc etc.

    Is it justified?

Isn't every game a must win for Rangers?

Yes, there has been some major fuck ups and poor results involving the above players over the last 5 years, but equally there has been some memorable victories aswell.

Are we now in a habit of crucifying certain players, when things don't go our way.

Their medal return is why these labels come out

domestically their trophy return has been pish . Until that changes questions are always going to be asked

I went onto the forum a couple of hours after the game and if I hadn’t watched it myself you’d swear we got trounced, completely bottled it again.

The first 20 minutes weren’t great but their keeper still had to make a great save from Lawrence with Cantwell waiting to pounce.
The longer the game went on the more we controlled it and created

A wee bit less hysteria wouldn’t go amiss with some people.

I don’t think it’s hysteria to be questioning why once again a huge opportunity to apply pressure on Celtic has been squandered. Some of these players have been here under 4 managers now and the same question of mentality keeps rearing it’s head because situations like yesterday keep happening when those chances to close the gap come our way

It’s not the case of being OK about it, but at the same time you could look at the overall performance and not automatically come to the conclusion the players shat themselves.

The first twenty minutes it certainly looked like the players shat themselves. With all the noise going into today’s game about rivalry , allocations and the golden opportunity provided by Celtics dropped points . We needed calm , focused heads and a Rangers team to show up and do the job and stamp their authority on the game

instead in the first twenty minutes we got the usual rabbit in headlights stuff this sqaud has produced too often up at Pittodrie . 3 times in the opening 15 minutes they got their striker into a 1v1 position with our goalie from the exact same pattern of play.

  9. Mentality is our biggest issue at the moment

Said it before and hate being negative but for so many of our senior players this is the norm of their Rangers career. Languishing behind celtic and when given the odd glimpse of hope fucking it. It’s up to them to prove us wrong but so many times they fail

    That’s the boundary.

They finished third, and the Fairs Cup only allowed one team from Glasgow so we got it, Dundee took their place and got to the Semi’s and played Leeds who put us out

So the boundary cuts through the stadium

Assuming you mean Clyde they had pretty small attendances by the 70s or 80s. The last time 8 remember seeing us there was about 1979 or 80 in the cup and there was about 10 maybe 12000 and that was a huge gate for them

Nah was meaning Clydebank and their old stadium at kilbowie . What sort of attendances were they attracting ? They were still kicking about the top division in the early 80’s weren’t they ?

  12. What sort of attendances were Clydebank able to attract at their peak ? Time I have grown up Glasgow has always just been us , them ,Thistle and Queen’s Park in their current stature so always fascinates me that at one point there was 5 or 6 teams in the city able to attract decent numbers

edit: I know Clydebank isn’t technically Glasgow before someone jumps in

  13. Just having a read on some of the third Lanark stuff this morning

Interestingly one article claiming they were maybe the team most linked with Glasgow’s Jewish population at the time due to location.

Also claiming at the beginning Queen’s Park where more seen as “the gentleman’s club” aka a bit snobby :lol:while Third Lanark with their military ties tapped into a more patriotic and working class fan base

probably off on a tangent now for the topic of the thread so apologies

Cathkin Park is so weird. It’s a mixture of sad and interesting in equal measure

Were Third Lanark just a mixed side supporter wise in terms of religion etc?

Think they were formed by a group of soldiers from the same regiment

Probably made up of mostly Protestants but their rivalry with Celtic never took on the dynamics of ours

Fenerbache are a bigger club than Rangers in terms of supporter numbers, we possibly have a wider net of support but overall they dwarf us, their twitter has 11.2 million followers, we have 0.72, its a wanky metric but the gap is massive and its meaningfull.

Look at the support we took to our two recent Euro finals

Im also sure we held the champions league record for away support in a non final game for Barcelona in 2007-8 campaign. Couldn’t tell you if it has been bettered since then but it was at the time and for a while

what numbers did Fenerbache take when they won the UEFA cup in 2000?
