  1. I havent seen enough of these 2 players to judge. I refuse to place any substance on youtube clips. I tend to believe that half of any players brought in will be successes, half will be less than stellar. Though it has to be said MW success rate is better than most. I suppose what im saying is that I expect at least one of these guys to be good enough to be almost an automatic starter next season and one of them more of a squad player. Ive no idea which of the two will be the star for us.
  2. Im guessing every decent player from the lower English divisions will be touted as the next Jamie Vardy. Vardy's success has probably added an extra zero onto most of these players transfer fees.
  3. This. It's just a made up number or guesstimate. Im certain as the day is long than no-one from Rangers will have officially said anything about £5million. It's a reporter guessing we'll spend more than £1m but less than £10m then splitting the difference.
  4. Im not sure how high a quality player we can afford. When im speaking of being unable to attract/afford higher quality players I mean players with a proven track record who are already much in demand. I doubt we can out-pay many other competing clubs in England. What I think is a positive from recent events is that players of lower leagues who MW rates will now be more likely to give us a fair hearing from our bids. Let's face it Scottish football is not the most attractive option for English based players. However, with Warburton in charge I think most of the English footballing world know he will improve most players he manages. For a certain type of player, their agents will now be beating down our door to sign for us imo. It's Warburton who will attract them not our promises of big-pay.
  5. I don't think we are in a position to be too choosy. We have a budget of loose-change compared to some other teams and can't afford to throw money away. If he's good enough, has the right attitude, and cheap enough MW will bring him back. I trust Warburton's judgement over any internet poster. Obviously a lot of bears will be pissed off at him for past actions. I can understand this attitude for sure. I can also understand that a players career is short. They need to make a decent living from the game if possible. Saying all that we have to remember we are entering the silly season of transfer reporting. Half these stories touted in the media are made-up nonsense by players agents in order to put their player in the shop window.
  6. Says the recruiting process started weeks ago in looking for new players. Spoke very highly of the chief scout he brought in. Looking forward to European football if we win the final....the squad lacks depth etc. Not much new in what he said but he really is a great guy to listen to
  7. Yeah, I reckon it's 4 or 5 plus Windass and Crooks. It may in fact be more than 5 if we include loans. MW always talks about using the loans system to our advantage. All in all we'll probably get around 6 more players in or there abouts. I usually have an long held assumption that half of any new signings will be a success and half will be pretty shit, but with MW I think his success rate will be greater.
  8. Im feeling old. Some caller who sounded fairly mature hadn't heard of John Robertson.
  9. Same here. As I listened to him I didn't immediately think "oh oh" that didn't sound good. I thought he gave a professional reply to a leading question.
  10. Good luck to him in the future. His job here is almost done.
  11. Im about to get totally geeky. A great save from Goram of course. That save was before the "make yourself big" style of goalkeeping came along. I think a lot of goalies today would have just flung themselves towards Van Hooijdonk with arms and legs spread wide.
  12. This. I expect 5 or 6 new players to come in, a couple of them probably loan signings. It's impossible to predict the team right now.
  13. Im always a bit wary of stuff like this. What you say may be true. There may indeed have been a change in coaching styles/mentality in Belgium. It may also be the case that this group of Belgian players coming through was coincidence. Belgium wouldnt be the first, or the last, mid level European team to improve then for some reason go backwards. I have a feeling its not as simple as a set coaching mentality.
  14. DJ's back heel at 3.44. A thing of comical beauty.
  15. Not impossible but not likely either. Barring the tims the next half dozen SPL teams are a reasonably even standard. The margins netween the clubs are slight. We are probably somewhere in that level of football right now. On our day we could beat them, on their day they can beat us.
  16. He's a "superkid", which normally means he's shite. But with Warburton's track record im willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he's mildly promising as a player.
  17. Shocker, player slates former manager and arselicks current manager! We see this sorta thing umpteen times every season. It's simply another player trying to get in the good books of his present boss.
  18. True. Advocaat is over-rated. I disliked the guy in his latter years at the club, and hated him with a passion when he fucked off. Correct. We were in shit loads of debt at the time. With the occassional bit of financial wizardry this debt came down, but I suspect that was from creative accounting rather than sound financial management. And by creative accounting I dont mean illegality just Murray moving debt around. THis sums it up. A few years of enjoyment, but the future and young fans were totally disregarded.
  19. A player has a go at a former manager he did not thrive under, and immediately starts arselicking the new manager. Nothing surprising here. Shiels may or may not have a point, but we see this type of bullshit all the time from players when a new manager come along
  20. I think this is easier said than done. The football world is full of mediocre footballers who were once promising youths as top clubs. The best ones who still show promise are invariably snapped up quickly. Im not disagreeing with the sentiments of your post, but it really is hit and miss trying to figure which young players will go on to make something of themselves in the game and which ones will end up working as taxi drivers.
