Red Friday

How does that hit any nail? Either support something you may not agree with, or take someone on in a fight?

The sort of macho posturing that led Blair to go into Iraq and Afghanistan in the first place.

Anyone who disagrees with the actions of our government in their foreign policy adventures generally avoids disrespect to the troops who do the actual fighting, but I'm uncomfortable with the applaud our troops or fuck off attitude that's gaining currency.

Britain now seems to be an 'either wear your heart on your sleeve or there's something wrong with you' type of place. I shall keep my tears well and truly in check, just the same, and my opinions on those who carry out political will by other means equally to myself.

First of all, I was speaking for myself.

Secondly, your opinion is your own and matters not to me.

Thirdly, I think you need to take a chill pill ;)

I don't care if it's true or not. I'll support the greatest troops on earth till the day I die.

British Army

British Navy

British Airforce

And every other branch out from them TA etc.

It's a great story. I'll be wearing red every Friday until our Troops come home.

God Save Our Queen and Country.

Poor show Andy, these men and women need the support of the entire nation. They are fighting an unwinnable war thousands of miles from home without asking any questions. Loyal to the core.

The least we should be doing is applauding their sacrifice, especially when there is a vocal minority in this country who wish to demean them and their bravery. I think this attitude of "stand with them or fuck off" is a result of many years of the majority being subjected to our brave servicemen being constantly belittled and taken for granted. It is a show of solidarity and it is little more than the troops deserve.

Coop is spot on, stand behind them or just try and stand infront of them. The choice is yours. Shows this country still has a backbone. :uk:

Dear oh dear. Anyone who wouldn't take around 2 minutes out of there life to applaud one of our braves soldiers is a sad individual. Your politics has nothing to do with the fact the soldiers are there fighting.

I don't think the troops out there fighting give a shit about politics. They just care about trying to stay alive so we at home don't need to try.

You'd do well to remember and appreciate that rather than using a political agenda which has no place in praise of these soldiers.

So yeah, I think applauding or praising our troops or fucking off seems a fair choice.

I had a lump im my throat when relaying that story there

WOW

Never mind the ins and outs of the war. They are there now so lets get behind them.

couldnt agree more

let the soldiers do theyre job and let the politicians deal with the rights and wrongs

home safe to the troops

Red shirt for me tomorrow. Apart from the enormous sacrifice our troops go through for our freedom, we should show that same support for their families left at home worrying about them and show just how much we appreciate their sacrifice.

It was sent to me by my father-in-law who has served 22 years in the forces. A man who has seen more death and more horrors than most of us care to think about, but as he told me the hardest thing he has ever had to deal with is the dismay of the British public towards him. After all he is out there risking his life to let these people live the lives they do.

Theses people who show their own political agenda by taking it out on our troops really are the cancer that has seen our once great nation fall to what it is now. You really ought to be ashamed of yourselves.

I, for one, will show my full support of our troops even if i don't agree with the reason they are there.

Simply turn your back on them on Sunday then mate.

call me a cynic but the story seems a little fabricated

What would anyone gain from fabricating such a story? <cr>

Attention. A little dramatic license helps their cause and if their story is believed it will inspire folk to buy into their campaign.

Nothing wrong with a few white lies in order to drum up support for a good cause, but I wouldn't take the basic story at face value.

A sad day if thats the case, but I,m willing to give the benefit of any doubt. I may be naive but I dont go with that angle.

Well, I was certainly willing to keep out the road since you all were so hurt/annoyed by my post, but I won't accept being labelled a cancer.

If you bring subjects which involve politics into the bears den, then you must accept that on occasion another poster may disagree with you. I could go on until midnight regarding the politics of this subject, but what would be the point? If you seperate what the soldiers do from the politics, then that's your viewpoint. I don't, and that's my viewpoint. I can take chastisement with the best of them: being a Republican, Nationalist, Atheist Socialist I've had plenty worse on here down the years.

As for this:

Theses people who show their own political agenda by taking it out on our troops really are the cancer that has seen our once great nation fall to what it is now. You really ought to be ashamed of yourselves.

Utter shite. I've never hidden my own political agenda, Christ knows people moan about it enough. I am not, however, taking anything out on our troops. Do I stand by the road booing them as they march home? No. Do I call for them to wash their blood stained hands or something like that? I don't. Given that a lad I like a lot has recently returned to the armed services, and is 3 weeks away from being posted abroad to either Iraq or Afghansitan, can't recall which, that would be utter hypocrisy. I do not approve of our interventions in either country and I don't see how killing people in either place can lead to a better future. Anyone want to enlighten me I'd be most grateful. But I won't bullshit and say Gawd Bless ya lads, but fuck those politicians. If you're pulling the trigger you're not helping is my view, and if this subject is to be raised than that's my voice. Ach, fuck it, you can always ban me if you want.

Good luck CF who used to work in Johnstone Morrison's, wherever you are.
