Out for 3-4 weeks

He'll certainly not be fit for this weekend.

The Portuguese midfielder was seen by a specialist last night and he will have scans tomorrow to discern the damage but it is clear that he will not feature in the next few matches at least with a longer spell out a possibility.

Bougherra will also have his knee scanned tomorrow now that fluid has settled down and a more accurate assessment can be made.

The medical department are slightly happier with his condition but he has no chance of playing this weekend and is unlikely for the following weekend either.

this is like the end of the eufa final season with two games a week / injuries to key men causing us to miss out - Smith didn't utilise fringe men then - he should do now - this squad cannot cope with 2 games a week - Hibees / Dundee United will not fear this lot . In my opinion we need to stop playing people out of position - call up the reserves as openings in their proper positions occur.

Defender Madjid Bougherra finds himself in a similar situation as he prepares to go for scans on his troublesome knee today.

The Algerian missed last Saturday's clash with St Johnstone after reporting back from international duty late.

And then a knee injury suffered during a training session at Murray Park on Monday ruled him out of Tuesday's Champions League clash with Unirea.

Now the stopper is waiting to discover just how long he will be out of action, though Rangers hope to have him back in action in two weeks.

Bougherra said: "I'll have a scan and I don't know how long I will be out of the team.

"It could be serious. It might not be. The good news is I don't feel pain in my knee. This might be a positive sign, but nothing is certain."

The last thing Walter Smith needs is to be without two of his top players at this stage of the season.

He will be without both Mendes and Bougherra for Saturday's clash with Hibs at Ibrox and that is likely to be the case for the forthcoming fixtures against Dundee in the Co-operative Insurance Cup and Dundee United the following weekend.

He'll pick a couple of easy games between now and January, other wise we'll see no more of Bougherra. It's obvious he's been tapped and nods have been winked. Fukking bastard players.

Yes, it must be that as the best way of getting a move is to avoid playing in CL games

we just have to find some money somewhere for a CB...I hope they are trawling the leagues to look for a bit of raw talent we can get on the cheap....it can't go on like this...totally suicidal

Hibs could overtake us this weekend I have no confidence we can cope with the pace of Riordan and Stokes
