gronaldo 38 Posted May 18, 2010 Share Posted May 18, 2010 Outside of how it affects Celtic, I do think the Champions/Non-Champions thing is good for European football. The tournament gets devalued when you have too many teams from the same league and it's just self perpetuating (the same teams are in it every year getting more money which in turn allows them to continue to dominate the tournament in subsequent years). It also makes the Europa League a bit more desirable as you have some better teams dropping into it. Platini gets a lot of stick, but I think this was at least a small step in the right direction. Downside for us is that 2nd place is no longer a likely route into the Champions League, but the SPL is losing the second Champions League spot from next season anyway, so it's not likely we're losing out on anything short term.
