Muff 245
STRIKER Bradley Wright-Phillips has been cleared to resume playing football – but whether that will be with Plymouth Argyle remains to be seen. The transfer window closes next Monday and it still seems likely the 25-year-old will leave the cash-strapped Pilgrims by then.Wright-Phillips was poised to sign for Reading a fortnight ago, until they pulled out of a £300,000 deal because of concerns over a knee condition. The striker has been troubled by it for much of this season, but he has still scored 13 goals for Argyle. At his medical for Reading, Wright-Phillips was advised to rehab his knee for a month. He has not played for Argyle since then, and they made an appointment for him to see another specialist for a second opinion. That took place in London on Thursday, and Wright-Phillips was assured he could resume playing without risk of worsening his knee condition. However, there continues to be strong interest shown in him, and a move away from Home Park remains on the cards. The Herald understands Scottish champions Glasgow Rangers have had a bid accepted for Wright-Phillips and they have also held talks with him.But Charlton Athletic – who beat Argyle 2-0 at The Valley on Saturday – are keen on signing the striker as well.Wright-Phillips is out of contract this summer, when he will be a free agent. So, with the Pilgrims in a desperate financial plight and still under a transfer embargo, they are prepared to sell him before the deadline next Monday.Argyle manager Peter Reid was reluctant to comment at length about Wright-Phillips after the defeat by Charlton. He said: "His knee is manageable. He's happy with what the specialist told him."When asked whether Wright-Phillips would train with Argyle this week, Reid replied: "Yes, if he doesn't go anywhere."There has been interest in the boy. If that happens, it happens. If it doesn't he will be training with us."Don't know if I'm reading to much into that, but if we are interested, then there would be a real concern over his knee for me. Muff 245
Charlton manager Chris Powell has made striker Bradley Wright-Phillips his first signing since he took charge of the club. The Addicks have recruited the 25-year-old forward, who has signed an initial 18-month contract, from Plymouth Argyle for an undisclosed fee.The deal was completed just two days after Charlton defeated the Pilgrims 2-0 in Powell's first match as manager, although Wright-Phillips didn't feature in the fixture at The Valley.
