Real Madrid Target Cesc Fabregas

Sky Sports News understands that Real Madrid could lodge a rival bid for Arsenal captain and long-term Barcelona target Cesc Fabregas.

The Spanish midfielder has been linked with a return to his homeland for some time, having progressed through the youth ranks at Barca before joining the Gunners at the start of his senior career.

A move back to Camp Nou had appeared the most likely scenario if Arsenal did decide to let the 24-year-old leave, but the two clubs have never been able to agree on a fee.

Reports surfaced last week that Barcelona had been in contact, but club president Sandro Rosell stated that he would not pay over the odds for Fabregas and actually valued the player as cheaper than 12 months ago.

Spain-based journalist Graham Hunter has now told Sky Sports News that Real Madrid have made an approach to Arsenal regarding Fabregas.

It is understood that Real value the player at €50million (£45m), which is far closer to Arsenal's asking price than Barcelona have reached.

Considering Fabregas' close links to Barca and the fact the two Spanish clubs are such fierce adversaries, it is unclear whether Real would be successful in luring the midfielder to the Santiago Bernabeu.

But he is a favourite of the board at Real and head coach Jose Mourinho, who wields substantial power over transfers, is also an admirer of Fabregas' qualities.

Madrid relied heavily on Xabi Alonso to influence matches in the centre of the field last season and view Fabregas as somebody who could make a big difference.

£45m bid according to Sky Sports News.

Raises the bar, nice one Jose Mourinho, very clever :)

Why?

Maybe they are interested, doubtful after landing Nuri Sahin and Hamit Altıntop, maybe they just want to play games with their rival, Barcelona!?

If Real Madrid bid £45m, then Guardiola and Barcelona need to act. If they want Fabregas, then they may have to pay more than they wish to!?

Was Fabregas' reasoning for wanting to leave Arsenal not that he was a Barcelona fan and wanted a shot at their first team? If that's the case then this bid is irrelevant. It was never about simply going back to Spain, or earning a bit more cash. He wants to play for Barcelona so unless that looks like happening I suspect he'll stay with Arsenal.

It was more a rhetorical, weary "why?". Real Madrid's fascination with money and collecting players for the sake of it like Top Trumps is very boring. Not that they probably have any intention of signing him and they're just winding Barcelona up, as you say.

That said I don't even know why Barcelona want him. Expensive and injury prone. I'd have faith in Thiago.

At the end of the day, if Real Madrid offer 45mil and Cesc refuses to go, and Barcelona offer 35mil and he wants to go, Arsenal will eventually be compelled to accept the latter offer, so it's not a classic GIRUY from Jose at all. As much as people want to confer the label of genius on everything he does.

If he actually intends to sign the player then fair enough.

It's a 'win could be genius could be pointless' situation.

I can't see Cesc going there, but if they put a huge wage packet on the table and Barca stall, then you never know !!

But I have a feeling he'd rather stay at the Arse.

Pretty irrelevant considering he'd walk into the Real Madrid team.

Ahaha some sour milk from the Barca fans here, everyone knows they have been tapping up Fabregas to get him on the cheap for absolutely ages, but with this bid they will need to spend proper money!

Well done Jose :praise:

You underestimate Basque pride Jamie.

I don't think they would allow Real to outbid them.

What a dick head Jose mourinho is .

Hopefully cesc tells him and his horrible club to do one . He shouldn't go to barca either as I don't think he'd get a game , but I very much doubt he'd sign for Madrid .

They really are a bunch of classless cunts .
