Even if he was out of contract at the end of this season it's still longer away than 6 months which is when you can talk to players. You can only speak to players once they're into the last 6 months of their contract, that's why everyone speaks to players and signs pre contracts in January, with the exception of guys like Bedoya but that's because he played in Norway and his contract was up in November/December at the end of their season.
