American commentary is fucking brutal :anguish:

"Centre-forwards*, like Kris Boyd, live and die for service like that." WTF?

Mind you the English commentator isn't much better:

"New country; same currency - GOALS!"

Fuck me. It's like Alan Partridge!

*or 'center-forward' if you're a Yank.

That is very Partridge-esque

TWAT! THAT WAS LIQUID FOOTBALL!

Looks like a great atmosphere. Smashing wee stadium (tu)

Yes, true business. That's really quite comfy confines of a stadium. Despite the heavy rainfall at the game, the fans stayed throughout the game and kept rocking on.

Two pictures of the Jen-Weld Field.

Kris has joined another Scot, John Spencer, the manager. Most of y'all knew him when he played briefly for RFC. He played in SPL and then in MLS. After Spencer retired, he joined the Houston Dynamo as an assistant when the Dynamo won the MLS titles. He was hired to lead the Portland Timbers in its inaugural season in 2010. I read that John Spencer's brother-in-law is Billy Davies.

It is usually rainy in Oregon and Washington, so Kris may feel a bit at home.

The first half was really ugly and pitiful for both teams, but in the second half, both teams lit up with the Union scoring first and then the Timbers axed them with three brilliant goals by Jean-Baptiste, BOYD and Alasshan. It was a pleasant match to watch last night. The Timbers travel to FC Dallas this Saturday.

Boyd's game-winner wins AT&T Goal of the Week honors.

Kris Boyd's having a pretty good start to his MLS career.

In his first game for the Portland Timbers, he got his first win on American soil courtesy of his first league goal. And as if the deal needed any more sweetening, the Scottish hitman has now one the 2012 season's first AT&T Goal of the Week honors.

After a wild sequence that saw the Philadelphia Union open the scoring and relinquish their lead within three minutes, MLS Player of the Week Kalif Alhassan collected the ball in the corner and served a pinpoint cross into Boyd, who nodded across the face of Zac MacMath's goal and inside the far post to put the home team in front 2-1.

Though Alhassan added a third in the 76th minute, Boyd's goal proved the difference as the Rose City opened their season with a 3-1 win.

Boyd's header won with 41 percent of the vote, handily beating out Quincy Amarikwa's 27 percent for his firecracker in the Colorado Rapids' 2-0 win over the Columbus Crew.
