THE Bill Struth Main Stand is at its magnificent best tonight after Rangers’ 140th anniversary celebrations got underway in earnest.

The Light Blues will commemorate their foundation in 1872 this week at a gala dinner on Friday night in the Thornton Suite.

On Saturday, the club’s proud history will then be heralded at the home game with Stirling Albion as scores of Gers players return to Glasgow to join the party.

Ahead of those events, a special light display has begun and it shows up the grandstand opened at Ibrox Park in 1929 in all its glory.

A series of blue and red lights shoot up from close to the base of the building, bouncing off the iconic brick façade.

In the western and eastern windows looking out from the concourses backing on to the middle tier of the structure, numbers marking out ‘140’ appear on either side.

They will remain turned on at night for the rest of the week before being switched off over the weekend then back on next Monday.

Keep checking the official Rangers website here at rangers.co.uk this week as we reveal which players will be at Ibrox over the weekend.

Around 50 past players will be present at either the dinner, the match or both including some of the most successful players ever to represent the 54-times Scottish champions.
