Would you take the hit....

...of another season in the Championship to let us develop the youth players &give it a better crack next season?

Imo, we need to use the transfer window to offload players we're not using or can't afford, and blood as many youngsters as we can between now & the end of the season. I'm sure we could get up to around the £1m mark from the sale of say, Wallace, Templeton, Shiels & Peralta. Also getting rid of Mohsni, Black, Foster & Boyd would free up a fair whack in wages.

We should then be able to say to the younger players....here's 4 or 5 months run in the team, no pressure just go out & play football. That would allow us to guage which youth players can do a job for us and who can't.

Just trying to think outside the box....break the loop of continually paying over the odds for players either at the wrong end of their career or who haven't been scouted properly. I don't think we'll go up this season anyway, the way it's going. So, I thin it's time now to cut as many losses in the first team squad as we can and do it properly for next season. Hearts & Hibs have shown us it CAN be done!

If we could get:

A new regime

New management team

Clear out most of the out of contract players

We would have 35k plus season ticket holders, I guarantee you.

I can't see the first one happening any time soon.

I think the next two would easily add another 10,000 onto current match day attendances between now & the end of the season. Hopefully that would encourage a higher ST uptake next season too.

Imo we should have went the youth route from the off.

We'd have saved a pile of money, got the youth some valuable experience and been the better for it.

Mind you we'd have needed a Manager who was going to give the kids a chance, show patience in getting both the Club and the kids to where we want to be while gaining some valuable Managerial experience himself.

I know the vast majority probably would'nt have went that way but i doubt we'd be the disaster we are right now.

If its the Play-Offs for us then we need to hope that Falkirk finish 4th, they have Hibs number and has been proven 3 times already this season Hibs have ours, luckily we seem to have Falkirks...that would take us to the final against the Premiership club, whoever that maybe.

Falkirk vs Hibs - Falkirk win

Rangers vs Falkirk - Rangers win

Premiership Club vs Rangers - who knows

Would rather spend that season mid table in the SPFL, rather than in the championship

I don't think our current squad is anywhere good enough for that. We don't have the funds t bring in the players needed to get us there. If we went up, I could see us being relegation fodder, unless something dramatic happens between now & the end of this season.

No, we need to get back to the top flight ASAP for purely financial reasons.

But if we have to compete next season in the championship at least Hearts and Hibs have shown us the way ahead.................

Is there a big gulf between the finances at the top of the championship and mid table of the premiership? They don't even have a sponsor yet! I don't see our fans turning up in larger numbers until something happens at boardroom level or a big change in our on pitch performances. Can't see us performing better with the current crop, unless a decent manager/coach comes in, of course!

As well as the lucrative 4 games against the tims, the extra interest we would generate would almost certainly increase gates, sponsorship and potentially TV money for all.

We have to be realistic and say people would buy ST just so they could watch us play Celtic.

I wouldn't like it but if we miss out on promotion then there is fuck all to do but take the hit. Actually I do wonder if DL is already implementing his cuts based on a worst case of having to take the hit (assuming the exterme worst case of having gone financially bust before the end of the season is avoided). If I were in his shoes I would not be placing any sort of meaningful probability on winning promotion. The team is shot on confidence and trust, the new management team can do nothing other than make no changes and is too allied to the previous failed manager. IMO DL can only sensibly pland for the worst and hope for the best. The planning and cuts being real and the hope bit is just, well, blind hope that on the day luck goes your way. And as a person more than familiar with the casino industry he will know that luck is a mugs game. You make your own luck - something this current Rangers team and management do not want to understand.

Put it this way - if we can survive as a Club financially and set up for next season with what would be a much reduced ST sales and much reduced match day attendance because on and off pitch stuff at Ibrox has meant that boycotts have become semi-permanent and getting worse - then I would take the hit if the Club survives. It would buy some more time for the chaos to be brought under control and for a management team to be found that knew what it was doing and that what it was doing was proving to be successful in leading us out of the Championship. Might take a few seasons though and that would be a real test of loyalty.

Next season in the championship would prepare us long term for the premier league. Whereas I feel relegation from the premier league next season is very possible and would set us back even further. Also getting rid of the out of contract deadwood would leave the young lads with a fresh incentive & goals to aim for.

I get that mate, but I just wonder what a relegation fight would do to the attendances? We're 2nd in the championship going for a play-off place as things stand. Fans are hardly falling over themselves to come & see us as it is...

Sadly on current form I worry that Hibs will catch us and we will end up with three leaps to get promotion and unless we see some huge changes in both management and squad before the end of Jan then I just dont think we will have a choice and even with huge investment in the next few months, can we survive another season without promotion!

The way its looking there might be no other option!

We might be better off with another year in the championship tbh.

this. Unlikely to be a choice. Mccostalot has wrecked our team. Even if we scrape a promo, without major surgery, we would steuggle bigtime.

I cant believe we're even in this position. We should have been a dead cert for the top league, but thanks to our overpaid underachievers on the park and the overpaid clueless management team i think we will be in the Championship. Is it acceptable? No!
