The Widow's Son 399
Seem to remember a Scottish Cup tie at Hampden when John Greig refused to be substituted. Who the hell would stand up to Jock Wallace? Is my memory playing tricks through the years (and beers)? Details if you please.

tannerall 25,935
You can always rely on Rangers Media to find the facts. Post 32 by Duncan 1957http://forum.rangersmedia.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=257999&page=2It was the 1972 Scottish Semi-final, John Grieg was crocked, as a poster above said he had a bandage round his boot.Jock Wallace wanted to substitute him, but Greig wanted to play on, to try and help drive Rangers into the final. The game ended 1-1, and the injury nearly kept Grieg out the CWC final.Should Grieg have come off, probably ... but his will to win, his commitment to Rangers was too strong. CraigG 56
We ended up losing that tie. If he had been substituted for a fit player the outcome could have been different. This is not something to be celebrated. Even legends should not disrespect the manager in this way.
jintybear 8,630
I'm sure Barry Ferguson did something similar under Walter. I can't remember the game I just remember Walter wanting to substitute him because he was carrying a knock and him shaking his head.

Tumshie 205
I remember Gazza not wanting to go off up at Tannadice during the 9 in a row game.
Creampuff 22,628
Big Amo done the same.We lost 1-0 at Motherwell, pretty sure it was around Christmas and we were still undefeated in the league. They had Dubourdeau in goals and he had an absolute stormer before that wank McFadden scored. Think it was Steven MacLean who was due to come on. Wawrinka 88
Aye Amoruso refused to go off, and McLeish went mental on the sidelinesA sign of weak manager though
Guest
Was there not a game where Albertz game on as a sub, then 5 mins later they mistakenly held his number up for him to come off again?

Greig missed the return leg V Bayern in the ECWC semi at Ibrox, to be replaced in midfield by a youngster called Derek Parlane. The King of Ibrox Park scored the second goal to seal matters, and the rest is history as they say.
