Moneyball anyone? :)

A former player in goal.

A centre half with a previous heart issue.

A young centre half plucked from obscurity.

A right back with an assault charge.

A journeyman midfielder with EPL experience.

Two young loanees.

A midfield destroyer who had been a transfer target of PSG to become a squad player.

A Portuguese nomad.

A Columbian striker playing in Finland.

Makes you wonder if Gerrard and Allen  are using some Moneyball strategy as the collective is proving far far greater than the sum of its parts.

Either that or he’s a managerial genius.

I don't think you understand what moneyball is.

Explain how I don’t?

The Economics of Moneyball states:

‘‘The Moneyball thesis is simple: Using statistical analysis, small-market teams can compete by buying assets that are undervalued by other teams and selling ones that are overvalued by other teams.’

So I think I do understand it mate.

Weve not sold anyone as it’s the start of something.

Cant help but think if it continues like this all our players will be sold for a lot more money.

I think that’s a very good analogy. Whilst Moneyball is sort of specific to baseball, I’d say the principles are pretty much the same.

Its looking like Stevie G and the backroom staff have scoured for people who have a certain footballing prowess but are perhaps overlooked due to other aspects. Basically, he’s taken the base principles of football, i.e. can he pass/defend/shoot and has he got desire? Other aspects of the football can be learned which is similar to what Billy Beane did with the Oakland A’s.

Good post and thinking outside the box dude.

EDIT:

Where as you just sound like a raging fucking cunt.

What was it in that post, heralding a much improved team collective under Gerrard, that warranted your response?

The statistical analysis is the really important part.

Yep. Not claiming it is a Moneyball strategy, hence the smiley in the title.

The bit about buying undervalued assets is relevant though, as is the ‘sum of its parts’ comment.
