Jewell Dismisses Miller Rumours

Derby manager Paul Jewell has dismissed reports that Kenny Miller could be set to return to Scotland.

Miller only arrived at Pride Park from Celtic at the end of August and Jewell is surprised with the speculation linking the striker with a move back across the border.

The Rams manager has admitted he will be active in the transfer market when the window opens next month but with a view to strengthening his ailing side rather than selling.

Scotland international Miller has scored twice in 11 appearances for Derby and reports have suggested he may be heading back to former club Rangers, where former Scotland manager Walter Smith is in charge.

"I have had no contact from Rangers and I'm not looking to sell Kenny Miller," Jewell told the Derby Evening Telegraph.

"As I said last week, I have not had any calls about our players apart from Steve Howard."

Howard has been receiving interest from two Championship clubs believed to be Wolves and Leicester.

Jewell's men are currently bottom of the Premier League and eight points adrift of safety following seven consecutive defeats and the boss is keen to add to his side in January in a bid to beat the drop.

"Bringing in three, four or five new faces can give the place a lift," said Jewell.

"We are going to try our best to get out of trouble and new faces can help."

Hopefully we come out and put this to bed too.

How easy would it be for Walter to just turn around and say 'He's not a player we're interested in'? Because he hasn't (or maybe he has and I've missed it) it's starting to be one of those rumours that won't go away and it's going to affect the supporters, think back Mojo and multiply it by 50 is what I'm thinking!

Its absolute pish that we were linked with him, why would a club who are in Derby's situation sell a striker after 3 months, regardless of who it is, they need every player they can get.

I hope this is the last we see of this 'rumour' as I can't stand the git.

Walter had the opportunity to put this one to bed........but didn't. That's what worries me. I'm not saying that it's going to happen, but I'm starting to wonder if it is an option that is playing on his mind. Hopefully the reaction from the fans on Saturday will convince him to put the thought out of his head !

Sometimes muddying the waters with regard to transfers can help rather than hinder...
