West Ham have rejected an improved offer from Manchester City for striker Craig Bellamy, BBC Sport understands.

City boss Mark Hughes said last week that a joint bid for Bellamy and Scott Parker had been turned down, but City have gone back for the Wales striker.

The latest bid for Bellamy, 29, is believed to be about £9m.

West Ham, whose owner Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson may sell the club, insist they do not want to offload players and are under no pressure to do so.

More to follow.

Bellamy has been in cracking form this season and is the sole reason West Ham are climbing the table, without him they would be really struggling!!! A fit Craig Bellamy is an asset to any team in the premiership IMO.

money like Man city have now and they go for Bellamy doh

They have to be realistic.

Apparently, according to SSN, they are in for Kaka :craphead:

TBH it's a joke. They go for Robinho and then start signing players like Parker and Bridge. Don't get me wrong Parker, Bridge and Bellamy are all good players but only good for a mid table side. They wana be the cream of the crop they'll have to aim alot higher.

Bellamy wants to go to Spurs but West Ham have refused to let him go

Sky Sports News understands West Ham United have rejected Craig Bellamy's request to leave the club in order to join Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs and Manchester City have both spent the transfer window pursuing Bellamy, with the Hammers turning down multiple bids for the Wales international.

West Ham remain determined to keep hold of their best players in January and made moves to secure Bellamy's future at Upton Park.

Bellamy was offered a new contract by the club on Thursday, but turned down the extension after talks with chief executive Scott Duxbury.

He also asked Duxbury to be allowed to leave the Hammers for the club's London rivals, but his request was knocked back.

that will make him popular with the Hammer fans :craphead:

Robinho had no choice really.

He was stuck in the golden cage of Real Madrid and it was Man City and regular Premiership football or nothing.

It's clear to all and sundry that Kaka really doesn't want to go.

Indeed, Robinho would have signed for East Stirling if the money was right.

Sky Sports sources understand West Ham have given Craig Bellamy permission to speak to Manchester City.

Bellamy's future at Upton Park has been the subject of intense speculation over the last few days after West Ham rejected bids from City and Tottenham for the Welsh striker.

The former Liverpool and Newcastle star had asked the club to allow him to talk to City and Spurs after turning down the offer of a new deal at Upton Park.

Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola omitted Bellamy from his 18-man squad for Sunday's 3-1 victory over Fulham at Upton Park, increasing speculation that the Welshman is set to leave the East London outfit.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp conceded after Sunday's draw with Portsmouth that he feared he might lose out to City for Bellamy and Spurs are believed to have made a new bid for 28-year-old.

It now appears City have agreed a fee with West Ham for Bellamy as Mark Hughes looks to be reunited with a player he worked with during his time in charge of Blackburn and Wales.

Bellamy is expected to travel to Manchester to hold talks and undergo a medical as City look to tie up a deal for the forward.
