Kinnear also said: "There has been talk about us signing Nigel Quashie but there is no truth in it whatsoever, so you can kick that into touch."

However the manager did say that two loan deals were being discussed. He said: “We are looking to bring in two loan players in the next 48 hours. Both are international players, one is Italian and one is Argentinean.

“They are not playing in their current side, but we need them at the moment. We are aware that other clubs are talking to them, so we'll have to wait and see.”

Just saw his interview on SSN - interesting to see if this does happen. I went over to a Newcastle forum and Saviola and Cannavaro seem to be the two names being mentioned.

Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear is hoping to tie up a deal which would see winger Peter Lovenkrands remain at the club until the end of the season.

Lovenkrands has recently has his contract terminated by mutual consent at Bundesliga side Schalke.

The former Rangers man has had a frustrating time with injuries this season and on his return to fitness found himself out of favour with the German side.

Kinnear offered the Denmark international a week-long trial but after just two days the player's performances have prompted the Magpies boss to offer him a short-term deal.

"We have spoken about him staying with me until the end of the season and then looking at it at the end of the season, and that's the position we find ourselves in at the moment," Kinnear said.

"He is happy to do that, so hopefully we can tie something up and make something permanent at the end of this week for the rest of the season."

Kinnear was also quick to play down newspaper reports linking him with a £500,000 move for West Ham midfielder Nigel Quashie, whose loan at Birmingham is drawing to a close.

Just seen his interview on sky sports news, and he never said what nationality these expensive loan signing are.

He must have said it off camera

Call me optmistic but... Balotelli? "Technically" an international.

Mourinho is less than chuffed with Super Mario just now.

The Special One doesn't like his attitude and has confirmed that he'll be going nowhere until his attitude improves.

Key word there is "expensvie"

Like I just said in the other thread, Newcastles problem for years has been that they throw crazy amounts of money at big name players who then realise that they can get the cigars out and as a result don't try a leg.

they are similar to Rangers in the sense that they need to start looking for hungry, yet talented individuals.
