Moody Blue Legend 61,467
My dad loved him ( Baxter not Archie!). Probably his all time favourite and he grew up watching the team from the Struth era.

linnyplant 303
Speaking on Radio Scotland tonight.Without hesitation, he bypassed the Lisbon Lions, the Dalgishes and Sounesses and named Jim Baxter.Must have been some player.Archie wrote a book in the 1980s "The Blue and the Green" that revisited memorable Old Firm games that he had attended . He gives an account of a game in the early 1960s at Ibrox where Rangers won easily. Bobby Murdoch (Celtic player) tells Archie that the Celtic team in those days were absolutely terrified of being humiliated by Baxter and were beaten before they had left the dressing room. I think I am correct in saying that Baxter was never in a losing Rangers team against Celtic during his first period at Rangers. He was the king of cool and had a mixture of style and arrogance that had the Rangers fans in awe of him. My late mother Cathy was a great Baxter fan and I can remember as a young boy her and my Granda Finlay reminiscing abut how great a player he was. sandyinroyalblue 16,478
I'm not old enough to remember him but I'm pretty sure his record against the beggars was phenomenal and it was only when he left that they started dominating Scottish football. Ridiculous talent but sometimes just couldn't seem to be arsed. Fortunately saved many of his best days for the beasts.
Rangers Lady 2,380
Archie is a good Rangers man, other half was in the standing enclosure with him watching a filth game. All the action was at their end "Broomie"That cunt that's everywhere the now let in a corner from the old Oduwa Mr Walters, Trev was wrongly given offside which would have seen us winBut Archie called their goal, said when they got a set piece they had been using Deek Whyte in training all week and sure enough etc.. etc..Point being was it was his season ticket in the enclosure, didn't use his press pass to get in

In tears as I ripped down the 30 or so pictures from my wall of Baxter. In hindsight it made sense, he was never the same player after his leg break. Back then not many players were, Eric Caldow being another who never got back to the player he had been. But at eight years old I didn't think that way. Noddy 2
I think Baxter was only on the losing side against them once. Apparently he used to joke to pals that if we beat them again he'd get to take them home and put them on the mantelpiece! He was a class act and a nice guy by all accounts. My dad used to play for another top flight side around the same time although Jim was a good bit younger. Dad really liked him and said he was the kind of guy who had time for everybody. And he was just a supreme talent

slimjim1690 4,534
There's an old saying, "never say never" with regards to fitba' players just when you think that you have seen the greatest player ever and you believe that no one will ever be better, usually someone else comes along and you have to reconsider your opinion, mine was Pele then Best followed by Cryuff and Maradonna, but watching Baxter regularly I can honestly say that he was in that company, and though I have indicated you should never say never I honestly don't think We will ever see a better player grace Ibrox in a Rangers shirt.
