Ryju84 3,170
Not understanding this tonight. It didnt work under McCoist. It was a glorified 4 5 1 under Warburton. Tonight could have been 4 4 2 easily - even with an under 21 in the squad up front.
Brian Fantana 28,894
no. we play 1 up top cos this clown didn't realise we need an out and out striker, not Morelos and a 37 year old.
bluchoo 846
Aye cause the 4 4 2 weve played has worked wonders

RDFM 3,809
We've played with two up front for 90% of our games this season.

SeparateEntityMyArse 53,752
Candeais scores that second and we go into easy street saying the tactic worked. Especially with Pena having an impact. He fucked the chance, we drew, the tactic was shite. Fine margins
chris182 6,310
Allows more cover in midfield - we're horribly exposed in midfield the way PC plays his 4-4-2 Pena may well make that Att Mid slot his own
Alves70 393
I think the formation had a lot to do with Saturday's game in mind. Safe to say we won't go 4-4-2 against big jock knewco will be either a 4-2-3-1 or 4-5-1 or some kind of variation of these.

We will play the system we need to play, but rather than focusing on systems OP, it will be all down to the players and their performance at the weekend; not a system. The tims play with one up front and sadly it's working well for them. 442 is gone for top teams as it allows them to be outnumbered in midfield. A striker supporter by a real ten is the way ahead wether it be 3-5-1-1, 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 .

With our defenders staying in our half and not bombing forward. And our 2 attackers never coming back.

Fine margins Correct we take half the chances we create in the 90 mins and we win by at least 3 or 4,that's not a failure of the system we did the same on Friday playing 4-4-

It's a difficult one, because of the fact that our midfield is hot and cold at times.
To Be A Ranger 4,032
It was basically 1 up front with a close supporting midfielder (reverting to a 4-4-2), a no.10 if you like. Pena was up there trying to link with him for a while but it just didn't click as far a goals were concerned but Pena has hardly kicked a ball for us, although he did ok. The other options were the other players filling in and supporting such as Candeias or Windass (haha) who spends most of the game blowing out his ass. Miller will take the Pena role on Saturday. trueblueal 2,117
Last night was our chance for a practice run at 451 with Pena furthest forward. I expect the same team to start on Saturday injuries permitting
Blue72 1,102
If Morelos, windlass and candeias put away their must-score chances it'd have finished 4-1 and we wouldn't have his debate
STEPPS BOY 74,000
One up front works if you have 2 wide players who'll get into box when attacking and at least one of the midfield 3 joining in as well. unfortunately one of our wide players is Windass. saintbob1969 1,473
It was a bit disappointing, to say the least, losing a goal on 90 minutes (especially after dropping points against Thistle earlier). Saying that it is beginning to look like a team of hard players instead of a collection of soft individuals. Better without Millar. No worse without Fod. No worse without Wallace. If all the players are firing then we could have something to offer. A few more millions to spend and we really would be a team. It doesn't look like Pedro is such a basket case anymore. Will need to see how it goes though.
