Why all the love for number 18?

I have to confess, I dont understand it, and, it annoys me.

Do some people really value running about or "workrate" over ability THAT much?

A distinctively average player, shocking technique, and, other aspects about him that are unpalletable, but, part of that is a personal thing. If we were a goal down, on an important occasion, and, he was all that was on the pitch, how much confidence would you have in him turning it on? I dont have much, if any

The huge argument prior to signing him was, "he isnt good enough" and, that hasnt changed, he is still not good enough, yet, people seem to be swooing over him. First pick in everyones teams??? Has he suddenly become Ronaldo or the like? Certainly seems that way

This isnt a Boyd debate either, so, we willexclude that early on, but, we have Lafferty and Naismith, both with more technique and composure, we also have Novo, who, If I was him, must be seriously peeved at seeing himself on the bench while this guy plays. Consistantly overlooked despite his contributions over the years with us, consistantly played "out of position" (since I know so many love that excuse for their favourite players), yet, nope isnt being given his fair crack of the whip.

Why should 18 get picked before these guys then? (and I didnt even get started on the younger players)

Lafferty - Naismith

Lafferty - Novo

Naismith - Novo

Lafferty - Boyd (my personal fav)

Naismith - Boyd - (worked pretty well at killie)

Novo - Boyd

Even excluding Nacho from the piece, the other 3 can make up any combo of strikers we like, all with more potential

Have our standards dropped so far?

I think Miller has done pretty well over the piece for us. Like the rest of the attackers we have though he has his faults and does struggle to give a consistent level of quality.

He has improved since he left us the first time and I'm happy enough with him in the squad while Lafferty gains the experience to become Miller's inevitable long term replacement.

Had to check first as I don't pay that much attention to squad numbers!

Bit unfair on him, we seem to be playing a more 4-3-3 in most games and he is suited to that type of game. Lafferty you must remember was suspended for the first 3 games of this season, Naismith had been out of action for a long period of time and Novo picked up an injury early in the season.

We have been winning with the players on the pitch, so why start changing it around?

If Lafferty is fit then would probably go with him if wer playin 1 up front. but Miller has experience of doing consistantly for Scotland during WS's reign and did a pretty good job. Boyd can't do it and I think Naismith is more suited to playing in the wider areas of a front 3

Kenny Miller has been a great signing for us. He offers all round ability and Ive yet to see him give anything less than 100 %. Kenny's style of play occupies defenders and opens up space for other team mates to exploit.

Energy would be better spent supporting and encouraging the guy.

his name is miller

would you like a prize?

Im guessing u have a problem with Kenny Miller then lol

Even when were champions and top of the league there are always some hu try to bring the rest of us down its the same with kboyd!!!!!!!

What a un-necessary pot shot at Kenny Miller, who has been one of our main performers this season and will be a major asset for us in this campaign.

Poor show Outlaw (td)

Well, how is this un-neccessary. Questions arent allowed matey? It was fairly straightforward, greeted with overwhelming apathy and annoyance, yet, now appears to be our favourite son. Thats some turnaround is it not? I still have the same low opinion I have always had, and, he hasnt done anything to show otherwise. He has had a few games where he hasnt been bad, but, "this season"? is 3 games old! Other players, that would be met with "its only been 2 or 3 games", so, your response is totally what I am getting at fella?

We will see about major asset, but, as I said, I feel personally that we have better, far better

True, but, he also has experience of doing it unsuccessfully for Scotland :P

If he was a wide player, I guess I would have less of an issue, as, he does contribute more there, but, the sight of him one on one with a keeper is frightening

Boyd cant do it???? Are you fucking mental????? Boyds the best fucking striker in scotland???? Kyle Lafferty has a tendancy to be a fud i.e Aberdeen at home. Naismith has had 1 good game so far and suddenly he is a winger????

Well 'all the love' doesn't lead to his name being sung by the game going bears, so I suspect it's another thing that the internet überbears lead in......

Ah, I forgot about that part.

See, its quite interesting, Boyd gets crushed on forums, yet, cheered massively at games, miller vice versa?

But, it wasnt a question was it, just a dig at him

Perhaps its because he scored a couple against "them" so, all is forgiven, even lack of ability?

A better question could be to look at how the quality has dropped from a few years ago when we could be good money for good strikers

Possibly. Is it the overall drop in standards that make people think he is a "great signing"?

We seem to spend (now) on midfielders. We have the same problem at the back. miller, broadfoot, papac and more, all nowhere near good enough, especially not if you compare them to the midfield players.

Boyd can't play up front on his own and we will play 4-5-1 in Europe. Lafferty and Miller are the only two options for that position

No he's not. Where people got this from i have no idea, he did it badly against Celtic.

Miller isn't just about work rate, that's being unfair on him. If it was, Novo would probably get selected ahead of him more often.

In terms of off the ball movement, he's the best in this respect when compared to our other strikers. Whether pulling wide, seeing an opportunity over the top or coming short....he knows where to make his runs to either get himself on the ball, or at least drag defenders out of position.

He might not always have the greatest first touch, to say the least, but when he's on the ball he links up well with those around him, he plays with his head up more than Novo for example, his ball retention play is actually much better than I realised before he came back for a second spell with us.

For me, Miller on and off the ball is an intelligent footballer and has been a very good signing for us.
