NACHO NOVO claims Walter Smith should be KNIGHTED. The Spaniard hailed the remarkable job the veteran boss has done in leading Rangers to the title despite their financial uncertainty. Smith did so without a contract and Novo accused the moneymen running Gers of showing his gaffer a lack of respect. He said: "The gaffer deserves a lot more respect than that. "He should be knighted after what he has done for this club. "I've said before that he should be called Sir Walter given what he has done here. "When he took over Rangers were in a terrible state. He has just been brilliant. "He has saved this club. The people running the club need to be honest. "The gaffer has been working without a contract but is still here. Anybody else would have said 'see you later'." Novo is one of six stars out of contract and looks to have played his last game for Gers. DaMarcus Beasley and Stevie Smith are already on their way while Davie Weir, Kris Boyd and Kirk Broadfoot may follow. Novo feels for both Smith and Ibrox chief executive Martin Bain. He said: "You can't blame Martin or the gaffer. They just want the best for the club, but they can't do anything because somebody else is running it." Novo - who launched his autobiography yesterday - also revealed the secret torment of the Rangers players this term, and his own at leaving. He said: "The off-the-field stuff has always been a problem, the players were worrying about it. "Now I can't believe that I'm leaving. "I had six years here and they were the best I ever had."
