We need to try and shift Whittaker of the wage bill. His new contract was reportedly on >20K/week on a 5 year deal. It puts it in perspective when we could get 3x Celik for the same wage. He has done nothing to justify this increase or length of contract during his time at the club and in fact can at times be an absolute liability - case in point Malmo. It was only awarded after he and his agent held us to ransom, I can only hope that Whyte / McCoist gave him it so we can punt him further down the line for a half-decent fee and avoid him walking out for nothing.

If it was not done to aquire the club then perhaps it was to pay any potential settlement with HMRC?

That's true, almost forgot about him! What beggers believe, and perhaps the worrying aspect of this is that there seems to have been almost zero communication between Ally and Whyte about transfer strategy until the evening of the last day of the transfer window. In retrospect, I'm sure Ally would have kept Fleck around if he knew that he would not be allowed to bring anyone else in. He must have also thought that he would be getting to take in at least free transfers with all the money coming off the wage bill. Otherwise what would be the fucking point of embarrassing ourselves bringing all those trialists over..

Perhaps the only good thing about this mess is that we should at least stop hoofing aimless long balls up to the main striker, which we seemed overly eager to do when Jelavic here. It has shown in the 2 games when he was out vs Motherwell / Hibs that we play much more effective football when we keep the ball on the deck, maintain possession and play a pressing game high up the park. That is as long as Big Lee is not drafted in to dictate the tempo as we play as slow as week in jail when he is around!!

Just checked and he has the most appalling scoring record I have ever seen for a striker. 3 goals in 74 games. Better to stay well clear of....
