McCall has to drop McCulloch, Miller and Boyd at least from the squad on Tuesday, has to play Sinnamon, Murdoch and Gallagher or it's just the same old shite, pun intended.

It goes without saying that there would be a honeymoon period with a new manager, that might just be enough to get us over the line. I don't know enough about McCall's man management to know whether the players would buck up. What needs to happen is to knock the crap out of them mentally, break them down to the point where they feel so ashamed and are nearly in tears, to then rebuild their mentality in the correct way. The last 3 years have been like a school classroom where the teacher doesn't show up.....have a joke in training, eat what you like and as much as you like, stay at posh hotels the night before a game etc. etc. I think a poster mentioned the sand dunes......my thoughts exactly, this squad have been treated with kid gloves for far too long and someone has to lay into them. The alternative is dragging along as we our now watching the last faint hopes of promotion disappear and wait until we can get rid of everyone and start from scratch in the summer, giving Cathro his full pre-season that he stated he wanted.
With a crystal ball we could see which decision is better in the long run and I know many think another season in the Championship would end us, maybe it will, or maybe it could be a blessing in disguise allowing the club to re-align correctly for long term success rather than short term gain. McCoist's signing policy from July 2012 showed a complete lack foreward thnking as he looked at the short term gain i.e. 3 promotions and to hell with it after that. I just don't want the same type of short sightedness coming back to haunt us in another 2-3 years.

A fair point to make, however I think the size of the rebuild and no doubt lack of money available to bring in players is just as equal a turn off if not greater for some of these "very good calibre" managers. I think for this very reason its going to have to be an up and coming manager who wants to make a name for themselves or someone that can see further ahead than the next season i.e. the bigger picture of European nights at Ibrox.
Some managers would perhaps prefer a blank canvas and the freedom to redefine a club from the way they train to the style of play as well as establishing a solid youth development programme and scouting network. I doubt however you'd ever have seen Dick Advocaat walk into the managers position had we been in the position we find ourselves now.
It's not an easy call and I agree with King saying they have to take their time for the appointment of the long term manager. It depends on how badly the current board want to get up this season. If they think that we can survive next year in the championship then I reckon they'll stick with McDowall until the end of the season. If they want up then I think the short term solution is Stuart McCall on a 3 month deal. If he exceeds all expectations then maybe give him another year, but personally I think a change of mentality is required at the club now that we can only do if we clear out about 75% of the personnel we have on and off the field (off the field needs to be 100% removal in my mind). This will take time, so it all comes down to wanting to get out of this division at the first time of asking......my money is on Cathro and Wotte/Magath in the summer with McDowall in charge til then.

These guys will have something to prove so at the very least won't be lacking in effort. In an ideal world you don't want the boardroom having an influence but McDowall isn't even trying to pretend that he's putting much effort into the job. This will improve our promotion chances and you've always said promotion by any means is your number one priority...

    How about.....?
"We're not lending you the players you need unless you're going to give them game time. You play them whenever you can if they stay fit and uninjured and we'll pay their wages. If you don't play them and continue to play the same old collection of no users instead then we'll take them back or you can pay their wages"
So KMcD gets told (by his current bosses) to play them in every game possible.
Or is that far too simple and not conspiratorial enough?
They're here to play football not hone their table tennis skills.

If they improve the squad and we get promotion, then they were worth every single penny.

The manager's job is to get the best out of the players- people mention the tactical side, but plenty of managers have not been tactical geniuses, yet they have been very successful because they have had that ability to motivate players. Ally doesn't look as if he is getting the best out the players, and so, reluctantly, I think he has to go.

We used to get these threads after any below par performances under Smith too, we got it under PLG and on the old 606 boards McLeish used to get it tight too.
It's basically internet culture now and you can bet any amount of money that the person who does eventually replace McCoist will get it too.

There's more than a pinch of truth in that. For all Ally's efforts off the field, keeping the Club alive and fighting for justice over our titles thus ensuring Green kept on message in that regard, it seems ridiculous to demand his sacking because the 100% record isn't always pretty enough against teams of hammer-throwers in November. We play in Scotland. Nobody plays like Barcelona, 1970 Brazil or 70's Cruyff inspired Ajax. Winning whilst not fully emulating total football is the sign of champions. It's part of a winning attitude. If we were playing in an aesthetically pleasing manner to the detriment of a winner attitude, we'd have another, more significant problem, in my opinion. No team always fires on all cylinders.Do not underestimate hammering in the right psychology, especially when we have a chance to cement that mindset before returning to the top tier. That's when you might just be grateful that Ally has instilled some grit, determination and, dare I say it, character.

Only 6 months amortisation for which will be charged in this year's accounts so would have minimal effect. Return to base and await instructions.

If our last premier league title winning team played in this division, they would have a couple of bad games and would definitely not win every game. There is always going to be games where we struggle, happens to higher up teams in every domestic cup competition on the planet. The performances the last 2 games have been poor, but we are developing a winning mentality under Ally and the squad looks, from the outside, very content with the coach. Playing attractive football would be nice, but we had to learn how to win first, which we have now done. Onwards and upwards from here, have the faith.
