I've been getting slaughtered for even questioning his potential but like yourself I just don't see where the hype is coming from.
His effort cannot be questioned, the lad gives 110% and more but the points you mentioned about being able to pick a pass, dictate temp and grab the game by the scruff of the neck are all points i've made myself.
A few have highlighted his age but that's a moot point for me, at the same age Barry Ferguson was doing everything we mentioned, picking passes, dictating tempo, controlling the midfield, McCrorie on occasions just looks lost.  I'm not saying he's not worthy of a place in the squad but for me that's all he is a decent squad player, the hype surrounding him just baffles me.

Ok so most in here are raving about McCrorie last night ..
Someone can maybe answer this question for me ..
If McCrorie (our holding defensive midfielder) had such an outstanding game, how come McLean (their attacking midfielder) had some much time and space to run the show and eventually get the sponsors man of the match?

I must have been watching a different game last night to everyone else, I thought he was sub standard at best.
I lost count the number of times he got caught on the ball or gave possession away and don't get me started on his first touch.
One of the first things you're taught as a kid is how to trap the ball at your feet or control a pass, at least 3 times I watched him try this only for the ball to run under his foot.
Rarely goes looking for the ball, and when he has it he never drives forward with the ball always looking to get rid of it, either sideways or back.

That starting 11 that destroyed us yesterday was full of free transfers, end of contract signings and academy graduates, only Brown and Ntcham were big money signings.
The difference yesterday was not how much money was spent, the difference was we were lacking a manager with any ability and a background team who aren't much better.
Boyd picked up on it at half time, their subs doing proper warm ups and drills, our subs just aimlessly kicking balls about.
We had a corner in the first half and I counted 4 blue shirts in the box, FOUR !!  About 5 minutes later we had another corner and we only had THREE in the box.
That has nothing to do with lack of money, that is down to bad management, poor preparation and lack of leadership from the dugout.

His coaching CV is not the best granted but its still early days and there are loads of top coaches who didn't have the best of starts.
Of course he is opinionated and if you watch Pedro talk about his backroom team that's one characteristic he looks for in an assistant, he said himself he wants his coaches to challenge him and present new ideas if they have them.
Proven to be disruptive on two occasions over a playing career which spanned two decades, has also proven to be a leader and one of the most successful captains this club has ever had.
As for foreign managers, he's worked under two at Rangers and Advocaat had nothing but great things to say about him, hell he built a team around him ffs, but hey that doesn't count, the whole LeGuen scenario must mean he cant work under someone foreign <sigh>
Whether or not the guy is a "throbber" he, like Pedro and his team deserve the chance to prove himself and show that he has matured since retiring.

Can't believe the negativity surrounding Ferguson, some fans on here seem to have short memories and see for some reason to want to focus on the minor incidents in his career.
Well for those who are slating him, let me remind them that Ferguson captained us to 5 League titles, 5 Scottish Cups and 5 League Cups.

MOH is one of the least effective footballers I have ever seen in a Rangers shirt, the guy just runs in straight lines (very quickly. I will admit) but his end product is almost non existent.  He seems reluctant to deliver an early cross as everything with him seems to be about getting to the bye line and drilling a low ball across the goal mouth, that's if he doesn't over run it or run straight into a full back.
We have a guy (Garner) who thrives on crosses into the box, we need someone like Tavernier on the wing who not only can run at players but can deliver good quality early crosses into the box.

Its time for a system change and if Warburton can't see that then he's either incompetent or deluded or a bit of both.
Its time to stop using guys like Miller, Waghorn and Dodoo as wingers and play them in their natural position of striker.  We can still dominate the ball and keep possession but use a different method of doing it.
Garner Impressed me when he came on against Hearts and I think there could be more to come from him but he needs support in the middle and the obvious choice would be between Miller or Waghorn as I don't rate Dodoo, despite his recent goals.  The Aberdeen defence is very physical and Dodo just hasn't got the strength or presence for a game of this magnitude.  Garner needs service and he thrives on balls into the box, McKay and Tavernier despite their lack of form have the best delivery of the wide players, lets get them hugging the touchline and firing balls into the box.
    Team: 4-4-2
    Foderingham
    Hodson  Hill  Wilson  Wallace
    Tavernier  Halliday Holt  McKay
    Waghorn Garner

Getting sick of hearing about how in the semi last season they were below their best and we played the best we could have played.  All I'm hearing is how much they have improved since then, how they have strengthened and how they are going to demolish our suspect defence.
They have played the same amount of competitive games as we have this season and conceded 11 to our 4 and yet no one mentions anything about their defence?  and how exactly have they strengthened?  Sinclair and Toure?  WOW !!
We played them off the park last season with the likes of Shiels, Law and Clark in the team, no disrespect to those three but if they couldn't cope with them how do they think they are going to cope with the likes of Barton, Rossiter, Windass, Kranjcar and MOH ?
I probably say this before every old firm but I have never wanted to win a game so much !!
All this talk of playing 3 at the back or trying to pack the midfield is nonsense, we play the way we always play and attack them from the outset, like we did last season.  High intensity and high pressure in their half of the pitch, don't give them a minute on the ball and we will see who the better side really is !!

I had a discussion at the start of the season with a few fellow bears regarding the possibility of Boyd being re-signed and I was 100% AGAINST it.
The argument put to me was that after his impressive season with Kilmarnock, the fact we were in the Championship and that he would probably be partnered with Miller in a front two that they would both score for fun.
My rebuttal to that argument was simple ... Who is going to create the chances?
Under McCoist we had adopted the worst style of football imaginable, long balls, very little in the way of a passing game and no plan B. We had been crying out for a creative midfielder (we had one in MacLeod but Ally was insistent on playing him out wide), without the signing of such a player it didn’t matter who we had up front, we wouldn’t create enough chances to get the goals.
So to answer your question, Yes i believe the system and tactics adopted by both Ally and Kenny this season have had a huge bearing on both Boyds (and the teams for that matter) lack of goals. Lack of chances leads to lack of goals which leads to strikers low on confidence, I mean how many times have we strikers (look at Costa at Chelsea) going through dry spells regardless of effort.
Don't get me wrong I think Boyd has to take some of the responsibility also, i think quite a number of times this season I have questioned his attitude and work rate. However until the system changes, we wont see any of our strikers scoring regularly any time soon.

For me the final, final, final straw ....
Down to 10 men, Miller having a mare and a baw hair away from being shown a 2nd yellow card, he has to come off ...
You look along your bench, weigh up the options ....Boyd? Shiels? Aird? Templeton? Clark? play another striker? bit of pace on the wing?
In what universe do you decide on Ricky fukcin' Foster? ?
