They might bring in a lot of money by selling Jota and Abada but there's no guarantee that their replacements will be a success. Its ultimately a toss of a coin.

It gives them an advantage but they are limited, as we are, on which players will even consider coming to play in a proverbial football backwater like Scotland.  Players who are the finished article and tick all the boxes are not going to come here.  They are more likely to be looking at young players with potential who would see coming here as a stepping stone to playing in England.  In that way their pool of potential players is limited and has some risk involved, although their financial advantage probably means they don’t have to look for potential that has lost it way, like we have to.
The financial advantage they have can be offset by many factors;  players form, ability to settle and adapt to Scottish football, blend with other players, form, injuries, and run of the ball at the right time.  I wouldn’t right us of on financial grounds alone.

It’s a good point you make over the difference in playing style.  From memory, Rodgers style was a lot slower more patient build up, not dissimilar to how we play.  That’s going to be a big departure to the fast, throw everything at them from the first whistle, style they used under the Australian.  Be interesting to see how that affects them, particularly if we can get a good start and keep the pressure on them.

I seriously wonder why any of the boys coming through our youth ranks would sign a professional contract with us.  It seems they are always at the back of the queue as far as management and fans concerned.

Just my opinion but really feel the last few games should have gave us the opportunity to see the likes of Lowry, Rice Devine etc to see if they could step up and become squad players for next season.
Lowry and devine are 20 (in three weeks). When you consider were paying money for players around that age we should be giving youth a chance as part of our model. This time last year Lowry played an end of season dead rubber game away to hearts and was outstanding. Missed opportunity especially today.

Lowry came in last season and looked good when we still had things to play for too.
Sands telling the club he wanted to leave and still getting game time ahead of King.
Zero game time for any youth against two Championship teams in the cup.
It’s nothing new, we’ve been awful with youth for years

Not a particularly great goal but Colak’s in Eindhoven was probably the highlight of a forgettable season for what it meant.  However, Tav’s at the Piggery gets my vote for being both spectacular in finding the net and then being able to watch the misery on the faces of the backdrop.  Sakala’s at Tannadice also worthy of a mention.

Yes, totally agree our league can become boring I can see why a player can also get bored. Also when you are here a while teams become better equipped to deal with your skillset so makes it harder for you to do well.
I think Postecoglu will leave at the end of this season hope not as I wish to see him suffer but his stock will never be higher than it is now if he's wanting a job in the EPL.

Yep add in winning the league and cup. And a European final. They’d achieved everything they were ever going to up here. Skill of a good manager to identify these players, cash in on them and keep the freshness. Scary how much they can drop off when they don’t care. As you said I’m sure their manager and guys like CCV and Jota will be eyeing up moves next year

There is no doubt he has gone stale, same can be said for Morelos and Kamara. I think for non-Scottish players, probably about 3 years is the maximum you will get before they start to get itchy feet and want/need to move on to pastures new.  In hindsight, we should have sold them after the League win in 2001 and didn’t qualify for the CL.  (Good thing is them over the city are going to start to have the same problem in the next year or two with all their imports).

I think Kent just needs a change will do better in a system that's more open for his style of play, at us his game is too well known to our opponents.
I appreciate what Kents done but he's not been performing now there are a few players like that.

You have pretty well set out the position I was making and agree with me about Matondo.  It might be ok for some teams, but pace alone is not enough when playing for us, they need to have other attributes to their game to beat players when space is limited.
On the centre back issue, I think at the present time the priority needs to be given to a physical aggressive defender rather than someone who is a good in distributing the ball (ideally, it would be both but that likely costs money).

Where did I say that I wanted us to go back to route one football.  I said we needed to pick players who will be suited to playing what we come up against week on week in Scotland.  Players like Matondo whose primary method of beating players is his speed alone are not particularly suited to playing games against teams sitting back for 90minutes, which happens in most of our games.

Say what you like about Walter, and I have been critical of some of his tactics over the years, but he knew how to pick a centre back that could defend and have the necessary aggression to compete in Scotland.  Don’t care how much the game has changed over the years, your not telling me that an Amoruso, Cuellar or Bougherra wouldn’t walk into our team at the moment and give us the necessary backbone to compete and win things again.

Even more so than who leaves this summer, the new signings have to be focussed on competing and return to the top of Scottish football.  Forget wingers whose main asset is their speed, forget centre backs who simply look quite classy in passing the ball, or midfield players who can pass the ball sideways all day, we need to focus on what is required for us to win here in Scotland.
I’m no expert on football, above that of any other fan who goes to the matches every week, but even I could see after watching 10min Youtube videos of Matondo, Davies and Ridvan that they would not be particularly suited to the demands of playing in Scotland and for Rangers in particular.  Taken together with our propensity to buy players whose main attributes are to frequent the treatment room, it’s little wonder we’ve fallen so short this season.
I don’t want to shift blame from the inadequacies of the players like Morelos, Kent, Barasic, etc who we are now just sick of the sight off, but it’s not their fault that their potential replacements have not been able to displace them from our team.  Wilson has a lot to answer for and we need to sort it out this summer or that lot will disappear into the distance.

Both have stayed too long and lost a bit of interest.  Unless players are Scottish, and preferably have some affinity with the club, I reckon 3 or 4 years is the maximum we should retain them.  Both Morelos and Kent will have seen Rangers as a stepping stone to the bigger leagues and when it didn’t come they appear to have lost that incentive.
Both should be thanked for their service and let go in the summer.  Unless there are no other realistic options I would limit their game time from now on, particularly as they’ll probably be watching that they don’t  get injured.
