  1. RIP Billy. My thoughts are with your family and friends.
  2. I have noticed since Hivs defeat by Morton the number of comments saying things like "the league is over" or "a guard of honour at Easter Road" etc etc. I just wish some people would remember Helicopter Sunday and that wonderful banner the dark side held up at Ibrox. Who would have imagined that we would win the league that year. So please refrain from making comments about the league being already won until it is arithmetically correct.
  3. I was driving back from Perth when I heard the news on the radio so I came off the motorway into Govan and bought a bunch of flowers to pay my respects and lay them at the gate. That night on the news there was me on the telly with the commentator saying even business men have paid their respects. First time I actually realised that being suited and booted I was a business man. RIP a very special talent taken too soon.
  4. It was interesting to note that Jackie Bird (well known tim of this parish?) on the lunchtime news quoted that BBC report almost word for word but conveniently forgot to put in the bit about It is the third match in a calendar year - and the eighth in five years - that has resulted in the Glasgow club being fined by European football's governing body. BBC Scotland has a timothy bias hmmmm I will need to think about that one.
  5. I used to love the way he would take the ball up to the fullback then point where he was going to put it and literally give the defender a couple of steps of a start but still beat him to the ball. Honestly could you imagine him playing these days he wouldn't last 5 minutes they would sine die him for bringing the game into disrepute because he entertained.
  6. Aye but we had to put up with the dust when we scored
  7. Every football fan should read The Numbers Game by Chris Anderson and David Sally as it is a real eye opener. The book is based on about 10 years of stats from all the major European football leagues and it appears that on average a team only score once in every ten games from a corner. The reason that Spain didn't play long balls into the penalty box from corners was not because they were a small team but they realised that stat. Also the "traditional" long ball game results in the defence winning around 65% of all balls played to them. The book is a heavy heavy read and even with my sales background and being used to sales figures and stats I found it quite difficult. I now only read it when I think of something say like throw ins to see what they reckon. Another chapter mentions luck and I noticed that Mr Warburton said that the owner of Brentford used to say no matter how bad or good you play you can never make allowance for a piece of luck. I think that the boss has more than likely read the book taking that we very rarely play the ball long from the goalkeeper and definitely don't take many long corners. Oh incidentally on the time of writing the book they reckoned that the greatest striker in the world was Zlatan Ibrahimovic as he scores the goals that matter i.e. the winner or the equaliser or the opening goal but very rarely scores hat tricks when his team are already 2 or 3 up.
  8. Great memories especially having to ask someone who had bought a programme to find out the half time scores. The other thing was that you used to always stand around the same area each game and got to know the guys around you. Also if you went underneath the old Derry for a pee the piss used to be dropping down from the terracing above you so you never wore good clothes to a match back then especially at Hampden after they put the cover on our end. When we scored it would take about 5 minutes for the black dust to settle usually up our noses and on our shoulders and in our hair. Hey maybe that was the start of smoke bombs at matches.
  9. I am afraid that I have to agree re Davie Cooper he was not as good as we all seem to think, like all wingers on his day unplayable but also had a lot of hellish games. I think it is the tv footage of some of the games mentioned that seem to raise him up in peoples esteem. Over the years I have seen far better wingers like Willie Henderson, Bud Johnston & Tommy McLean to name three.
  10. I have a dictionary given to me when I started school dated 1954 and the word fenian means a group of American Irish trying to remove the British from Ireland. I objected to it being translated into catholic by the media and at the time it should have been argued in the courts. Unfortunately we as a club at that time, possibly due to our success thought we were above a lot of stuff and just didn't get involved. Now try Googling the word Fenian and see what comes up the only different meaning I could see was from a timothy claiming it was a slang term for Catholics who support celtc. I have absolutely no doubts that in 2016 we will hear the word being used a lot more by them, infact did some lady not stand in the centre circle at Parkhead and use the word over the tannoy system? The main reason it has been banned is as anyone of a certain age and also no matter your age was at the game on Monday could see and hear the noise is incredible and makes our players play even better and immediately intimidates the opposition no matter whom they are.
  11. R I P Arnie Thoughts to his family and friends
  12. The incident with the 12 man opposition was Moscow Dynamo during their 1945 tour of the UK which we are celebrating just now. They had allowed substitutions and according to my late Dad, Torry Gillick noticed something going on and ran around counting the number of Dynamo players and came up with 12. It seems they had pulled the same trick against Arsenal in heavy fog
  13. His winning shot was absolutely sublime. I do like the atmosphere and the T-shirts
  14. O M G I am getting old I actually knew the name of the band just of the members names
  15. The way I see it is that HMRC are trying to change historical rules & loopholes and seem to be getting away with it. I liken it to me driving on a 50mph zone last year only to be told that they have now changed it to a 30mph zone but it is backdated and I am now being done for speeding.
  16. Have we reclaimed Santa Ponsa last time I heard it was a scum cesspit.
  17. Let the weans sit outside with a can of cola and a packet of crisps & check every 15 mins that they are ok Nostalgia Loyal
  18. On one of the phone-ins later they were going after the BT Sport commentator because he made the comment "It's a shame some people can't observe a minutes silence in someone else's home". They claimed if you listened you could hear the minutes silence was well observed but that was only because BT Sport cut the sound off. You honestly could not make this up and nothing will be done until the tim ridden BBC up here actually report what is going on to their masters down south. It is funny how the "computer" always has them playing away from home on the remembrance weekend every year. Yes they are indeed Scotland's real shame
  19. I remember these games very well as my birthday is today the 4th. I remember when wee Mo scored my son and daughter had arranged to have my name put on the half time score board wishing me a happy birthday. The day before the Leeds game my daughter asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I said 2 - 0 Rangers and she burst into tears when Leeds scored. I then spent the next half hour trying to explain that it was ok.
  20. If it is the handball I think it was I was shouting for a penalty when the defender grabbed Wallace by the arm and hauled him down. Wallace managed to get a touch on the ball which then hit a hivs player on the arm but I think that was too close for him to get out of the way of it. But again I thought the original "tackle" on Wallace was a penalty.
  21. And let's not forget he was the manager when Slim Jim did the keepy up at Wembley and it was his first game as Scotland manager.
  22. Traditionally I think it is the queues for the subway that caused it as I know some guys who say leaving 10 mins early means they save about an hour on the way home. What really piddles me off is that as we always shoot towards the Rangers end sorry Copland Road end and I have a corridor to the left to me I can't see the game and end up having to stand up then sit down then stand up and so on.
  23. God sakes you think he was bad cast your mind back if you are old enough to Jim Leighton he invented time wasting. I just don't understand why if the ball goes for a goal kick the kick is not taken from the side it went out at. That is one rule that should be changed.
  24. I knew him in his younger days when he played for hivs and I think he is the only player ever to take the ball round Peter McCloy twice and put the ball past the post. On asking him what happened he said "did you think I was going to score against the Rangers and watch all those scum banners & scarves going up?" RIP Johnny
  25. When he came back we played the timothies in a League Cup game and I worked with a guy who was a secretary of some celtc supporters lot. I overheard him telling other tims that they had a question and answer session with three "greats", no sniggering at the back. They all said that they were ready for him as they could remember every game they played against him he took the piddle out of them & they were going to get revenge. Cue we are 2 - 1 up and Baxter received the ball in the centre circle he literally stood looking at their midfield and signalled to them to come to him. Their three midfielders just stood there and wouldn't go near him obviously shit scared in case he took the piddle out of them again. Definitely not just ours but Scotland's greatest player of the modern era. Oh and no matter what anyone says there would have been no dark side 9 in a row if he had stayed and we would have been the first British club to win the European cup
