He has played 42 times and his performances have caught eye of Southampton

Rangers face fight to keep hold of experienced midfielder ahead of next season

Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield is a target for Southampton this summer.

Since arriving from Burnley ahead of the current season the Canada captain has played regularly for Steven Gerrard's side - making 42 appearances for the Scottish club which have included the three Old Firm games as well as a successful run in the Europa League.

And his performances have caught the eye of Southampton who are understood to have a concrete interest in Arfield.

Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield is a target for Premier League club Southampton this summer

The 30-year-old has impressed at Ibrox this season - scoring 11 goals from midfield, including a hat-trick against Motherwell last weekend. He's also added eight assists to his tally making him the most productive midfielder in the league.

But Rangers are now facing a fight to keep hold of their experienced midfielder ahead of next season.

Arfield already has vast Premier League experience with Burnley, and Southampton believe his signing would represent a risk free swoop as they have proven success of recent years with the recruitment of Stuart Armstrong and Steven Davis from the SPL.

Rangers are likely to value Arfield around the £3million mark (lol)

I could find a player with sell on value, probably the right mentality and isn’t a rat bastard that can play forward passes.

Lol justifying him because he plays forward passes, must be joking

Find one then because our scouts have failed to for years.

What is the Davis of old or the way he played the last time he was with us exactly?

He played good passes aye but he rarely assists or scores and nobody from midfield does it bar Arfield

He plays good forward passes and our passing is awful sometimes. He’s a good player to have about.

The entire time he had the armband right up to the point he couldn't wait to get to Southampton

Hes playing for a contract now though so fair play to him, he always has known how to look after himself

He’s getting a contract anyway of how he finishes the season

Don't actually mind Liverpool, and wouldn't be disappointed to see them winning it.  Would expect if they do they go out and spend big to further improve - meaning some fringe players could find their way to us?

Their fringe players are on massive wages.

I love it the way some people are allowed to hate some players , yet the same ones are up in arms, if you hate one of the others or their favourites

The hypocrisy on here would make rhodent no 1 blush

Nah it’s called a difference of opinion. I like some players you don’t and vice versa.

I hope during your shifts today you all spare a thought for poor downtrodden Danny Rose. It’s tough earning thousands of pounds playing professional football in front of crowds of adoring fans in a brand new, state-of-the-art stadium, but someone’s got to do it. Hang in there Danny.

    Clearly never read the article.

By 22 Gerrard had won an fa Cup, league Cup, and uefa Cup with Liverpool. Played well over a hundred games for the club.

By 22 Rossiter has managed 6 games with Liverpool and 16 games with Rangers.

Ignore the look of him and analyse the data objectively. He's not good enough for us at present, and is unlikely to be at any reasonable stage in the future.

We need to cut our losses, get a sell on clause included and hope he picks up and fulfills his potential further down the line.

So if by 22 you haven’t won an FA cup, League Cup and UEFA cup you’re not good enough for us. Ffs

I will never condone diving. It doesn't belong in the game. I hate it when Morelos does it or when Lafferty did it years ago.

It’s not diving it’s exaggerating an incident and drawing more attention to it which ultimately got Morelos sent off and Kent charged.

no he didnt. i remember being absolutely embarrassed for lafferty after that stunt he pulled against the sheep. Getting other player to react and then feigning injury is a blight on the game and the more its condoned the more it will happen.

If cunts are gonna do it against you, you might as well do it to them. It’s exactly what Morelos should have done when Brown stood on his heel.

I thought that at first but it’s clear it was a push and not a punch like the picture suggests.

Was a yellow card offence if the ref saw it so dunno why it’s a 2 game ban.

The big hard man brown rolling round after  a shove to his chest hasn’t helped him.

Brown did exactly the right thing in rolling around.
