Amir Khan v Ricky Hatton

Recommended Posts

I'll keep it short and let the boxing fans talk about this one, but Ricky's trainer has confirmed that he's back in the gym getting himself into shape.

It's thought that he will come back and fight in Britain once more and that the opponent will be Amir Khan. What do we think of that?

Hard fight for both fighters. If Hatton wins, it ends Khan's career and if Khan wins, Hatton's reputation will take another beating. Seems to be the talk of the town on the radio today as well.

Khan would destroy Hatton.

Too fast, too too agile and too young. Hatton is a spent figter.

Before his fight with the pacman Hatton got knocked out in training by Erislandy Lara and they were on the verge of pulling Hatton out the fight.

Hatton was a good fighter, never a great fighter (tu)

Khan also has a glass jaw though. If Hatton lands a good shot then it could be all over. However, Khan is very fast and his trainer Freddie Roach also trains Manny Pacquiao who destroyed Hatton. Roach could come up with the perfect gameplan. Very interesting fight.

It is yet to be seen if Khan has a "glass jaw". That punch by Prescott would have knocked out near on any fighter in any weight class. And also Khan is an extremely different fighter than the one who took on Willie Limmond. He is stronger, faster and has the best coach and the best parring partner in the world in Roach and Pacman.

The problem with Khan is not his ability to take a punch it's his ability to AVOID taking a punch, there's a difference (tu)

Limond is not a big puncher though. 8 Ko's out of 32 wins. Michael Gomez also knocked him down and he was well past it. The shots that Prescott landed were brutal but a jab had him wobbling. And they were at lightweight. Hatton is a decent sized light welterweight with good power. If he lands a big shot, Khan will be in trouble.

Limond and Gomez didn't even land good shots, they were glancing blows which hurt Khan. Imagine what Hatton would do. Khan may be stronger but he won't be as strong as Hatton. His speed could trouble Hatton though. Having the best coach in the world will improve his defense but it won't increase his ability to take a shot.

I disagree. Khan showed in the Prescott fight, Limond fight and Gomez fight that he is hurt easily and atton can still punch.

Anyway, Hatton's lawyer is saying that he isn't making a comeback.

Ricky Hatton's lawyer Gareth Williams on Tuesday scuppered reports that the fighter was contemplating a comeback, insisting they were "nothing more than conjecture" after sources close to the light-welterweight had revealed the Mancunian was back in training.

Williams, the fighter's lawyer and chief executive officer of Hatton Promotions, the fighter's boxing and clothing promotions company, said on Tuesday that Hatton has been active in the gym, but those sessions "had been mistaken for him being back in training for a fight."

"The fact that he has been reported as getting ready for his next fight is nothing more than conjecture," said Williams.

"Ricky has been in the gym a few times, and he is keeping in shape. Ricky was often criticised for ballooning in weight between fights, but he has been going to the gym purely from a fitness perspective."

It is almost two months to the day since Hatton lost for the first time at light-welterweight, outmuscled and out-punched at 140lbs for the first time in his career by the Filipino phenomenon Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Since then, Hatton has given no public indication of his intention to fight on.

Williams added: "At this time all his energies are focused on Hatton Promotions, which has upcoming shows in Altrincham, Newport and Manchester over the next two months.

"People have seen him going to the gym and have put two and two together and come up with the notion that he is in training for a comeback. That is spurious, because he has talked to no-one and is no discussions whatsoever at this time about another fight.

"I travelled back from a Hatton Promotions show in Portsmouth last weekend with Ricky and we were laughing at reports in the weekend papers that he was making a comeback. They are all nonsense. As and when Ricky Hatton decides about his future, he will make a full public announcement."

There had been reports that Hatton was contemplating a comeback fight in Manchester or Cardiff, with Amir Khan a potential opponent. Khan faces Andreas Kotelnik in Manchester for the World Boxing Association 140lb title on July 18.

To be brutally honest - who cares!

Khan would whip Hatton, Hatton hasn't got it anymore.

The fight I want to see is Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather JR, potienially the fight of the century! I am actually creaming at the mouth at the prospect of this fight. Hopefully Floyd comes through against Marquez and if Pacquiao - Cotto fight happens, then I would expect Paquiao to truimph. It will be then up to the current pound-for-pound#1 and the former. The two best fighters on the planet going one-on-one to see who truly is number 1.
