Looks a strong team, if we can get the midfield too work, as in who sits back to allow to go foward, i hope ness and edu are the ones deeper. Ness can pick a pass from there and we need Davis up the park more

BTW has anyone seen the size of the Celtic squad? 24 players to chose from, and I counted 5 missing as well. Half of them midfielders. Fucking insanity

can we stop with this pish please it's embarrassing.

It wasn't that when we were crowing about having enough quality players to field 2 full teams, or SDM claiming for every £5 they spent, we'd spend £10.

Fuck them.

Andrew Dickson reports from Ibrox

EL HADJI DIOUF will make his first start for Rangers in the heat of the Old Firm derby after Walter Smith named him in his starting XI for today's clash with Celtic.

Nikica Jelavic has also been passed fit to play a full part in the Scottish Cup fifth round tie after recovering from a groin injury.

Nikica JelavicManager Smith makes three changes to the team which beat Hearts 1-0 and the final alteration is another which fans will welcome as Steven Naismith comes back into the side.

The Light Blues boss is going with a 4-4-2 formation that will see Diouf play just off Croatian attacker Jelavic.

Naismith will also slot into the left side of midfield as Vladimir Weiss drops to the bench and Lee McCulloch and Kyle Lafferty drop out.

McCulloch, of course, had to come off on Wednesday night against the Jambos with a knee problem and he has been ruled out of this one as a result.

Lafferty, meanwhile, is struggling with tonsillitis and that means he is only well enough to occupy one of the five substitute spots.

Otherwise, Smith goes with the same men who edged a crucial SPL victory four days ago, with Allan McGregor in goals.

Steven Whittaker, Madjid Bougherra, David Weir and Sasa Papac make up the back four as usual after five clean sheets in seven games with just two goals conceded in that sequence.

Steven Davis remains on the right side of midfield, with Maurice Edu and Jamie Ness teaming up in the centre.

Diouf's fellow new signings David Healy and Kyle Bartley are both amongst the replacements, with Neil Alexander completing the matchday squad.

RANGERS: McGregor; Whittaker, Bougherra, Weir, Papac; Davis, Edu, Ness, Naismith; Diouf, Jelavic.

SUBS: Alexander, Lafferty, Healy, Weiss, Bartley.

REFEREE: Calum Murray.

Celtic team and substitutes to follow.
