kysports.com understands Wigan Athletic and Rangers are keen on former West Ham United defender Lars Jacobsen.

The 31-year-old Dane is a free agent after turning down a new deal at West Ham and could have the option of staying in England or moving to Scotland.

Jacobsen made 26 appearances for the Hammers last season after joining from Blackburn Rovers, having also played for Everton in the Premier League.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is looking to improve his options at the DW Stadium after starting the new season with a 1-1 home draw with Norwich City.

SPL champions Rangers are also in the market for defensive reinforcements after experiencing several setbacks during the summer.

Rangers boss Ally McCoist has mounting injury problems at Ibrox and Jacobsen could be an option to add to his squad.

Could be a deent signing on a free better cover than Broadfoot IMO

Whittaker has been a liability this season. He flogged the goal at Ibrox against Malmo he got sent off in the 2nd game early on and has been utter shite in most of the games this season.

lol don't be to sure about that, could be another one for the left wing lol

LMAO I could imagine the press conference now. Ally "We would like to welcome Lars Jacobsen to the club"

Lars "Its a pleasure to join a massive club like The Rangers"

Ally "Lars will make a fantastic addition to our team and will be a regular on the Left Wing"

Lars " What??"

Ally " Yes we have discussed this you will be a cracking left winger for us"

Lars " Eh Ok then"

I think Whittakers best position is Midfield going forward, he is not a RB he is a liability defending which has cost us since he's been here and not just this season mate.

Well that could poss be the thinking behind this, much better going foward than doing his defensive duties, could work also
