trampas2000 6
www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1433212/Fans-Paki-taunt-was-racist-High-Court-rules.html "Fan's 'Paki' taunt was racist, High Court rules""Lord Justice Auld overturned the ruling yesterday, saying it was clear that the word "Paki" - short for Pakistani - was "a slang expression which is racially offensive".He dismissed claims that the term could be used affectionately in the way that Australians are sometimes called "Aussies", Britons "Poms" and Americans "Yank.""The ruling, thought to be the first time the word 'Paki' has been defined as derogatory under the 1991 Football (Offences) Act, was welcomed by the CPS.Maureen Shea, head of its trials unit in North Staffs, said: "The significance of this ruling is that it clarifies the fact that the term 'Paki' is racist under the terms of the Act and anyone else who uses it in a chant at football matches will be found guilty." Shameful anticsAgreed....we are giving those in the media all the story they need with the hysterical over reactions to everything! No doubt someone will tell me this is a dig at ally......but I also feel ally could have been more cute with his comments as yesterday on espn it certainly came across like a dig at green and despite going on to say the working relationship was good and they were on the same page, the papers already had their angle for today! Weather it be the manager and CEO or the fans we really need to try and find a common ground whereby we can show a united front against those who would love to see us even more fractured and in disarray! surfsup2

Some just don't want us progressing as we are or they are supporters of this underhand tactics used by so called rangers people who are all talk and want the best for rangers no matter how thr actions effect rangers. SkiBunny 441
it Paki is what we refer to as a Pakistani in uk and have done for years Not true. Explain to me how the word 'Paki' short for 'Pakistani' is racist?!Simple. Paki is used to describe anyone of Asian appearance not just people from the country Pakistan. Therefore it's based on race and not nationality. Paki was never a term of endearment. Was ALWAYS used disparagingly. Bothwellbear
Johnson 27
The remarks from Charles were incredibly crass and will, as we have seen, be regarded as offensive by some.I certainly can't think of a CEO of any other major firm who would be happy to be quoted using terms like that.I also can't work out how he thinks that using phrases like "worst Rangers team ever" is going to encourage fans to buy season tickets. How much are we paying to the likes of James Traynor and MediaHouse to advise him on what to say, and what not to say, in the Press? Are they crap or is he just not listening?Either way, it has gone beyond embarrassing.I just want Charles to shut up until he has something sensible - and positive - to say. simon 1,744
If I read the quote, the context is very clear. The only way its bad is out of context.Or should I go and apologise to all the people I've inadvertently insulted with racist abuse, while we were laughing and drinking together?WATPMaybe you just shouldn't involve yourself in racist abuse? Uncle Fester 186
Rangers FC will never get another penny of my money until Charles Green comes out and apologises for saying "I’ll say ‘How’s my Paki friend?’". Fucking disgraceful.Sounds to me you're looking for an excuse not to give Rangers any of your "pennies" Why don't you just fuck off then and give us all peace. He's blue he's white 717
Not condoning racism in any way shape or form but can anyone from the west of Scotland really say that they've never used that word ever in life?I've heard that word used thousands of times by many people in and around Glasgow does not make everyone who said it a racist. Also doesn't make it acceptable

You really are more than the sum of your parts. Is that why the site now bans people who use certain insults? So people can't say what you actually are? delparlane 5,723
Regarding the OP, I find it a lot more disconcerting & offensive that Green would consider hiring someone like DiCanio. I don't condone or use the term 'Paki' myself, but as has been said elsewhere, context here is key. Green is blunt, he is outspoken, he is old school, and too often he completely lacks common sense or awareness of how times have changed and what is now considered to be appropriate, but I do not see him as a racialist at all. The problem comes from him being too bloody stupid sometimes; he continues to shoot himself (and as a result, this club) in the feet with statements that his detractors can be off and running with, simply because he often lacks the common sense to know when it's appropriate to keep his mouth shut. Pretty obvious that's not going to change, so we'll just have to learn to take the good with the bad as long as he remains here.
