"South African prop Johan Le Roux bit New Zealand hooker Sean Fitzpatrick's ear during a scrum during a test in 1994, receiving an 18 month ban.[9] After the disciplinary hearing he stated that "For an 18-month suspension, I feel I probably should have torn it off"

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes the FA has "punished the man" rather than the actual offence by giving striker Luis Suarez a 10-match ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic.

Rodgers was brilliant in the press conference today, calling the shower of shit FA out for what they are.

Brendan Rodgers is an absolute disgrace of a man.

How he can dispute the 10 match ban is just laughable.

He fucking tried to take a BITE out of a fellow professionals arm and he still backs him...

If anything it shows Liverpool for the shower of shit they are. They released their statements after the game to try and get the FA to be lenient and then chuck the toys out the pram when it doesn't work

FA statement -

Liverpool forward Luis Suarez has not appealed the suspension issued to him by an Independent Regulatory Commission this week.

A three-person Independent Regulatory Commission upheld The FA’s claim that a suspension of three matches was clearly insufficient and the player will now serve a further seven first-team matches in addition to the standard three.

The suspension begins with immediate effect and applies to Liverpool FC’s next ten domestic first-team fixtures.

This sanction followed an incident with Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic in Sunday’s fixture at Anfield (21 April 2013).

The FA intends to publicise the Independent Regulatory Commission’s written reasons in due course.

Luis Suarez today confirmed his decision not to appeal the 10-game ban imposed following the incident with Branislav Ivanovic at Anfield on Sunday, April 21.

Managing director Ian Ayre said: "The charges against Luis were his to consider and we have to respect his decision to not appeal the 10-game ban.

"We are all disappointed at the severity of the punishment and in particular the differing standards that have been applied across various previous incidents.

"Luis is an important member of our team and nothing has changed in that regard.

"We are committed to helping him improve his conduct and he will be given our full support. We look forward to him returning to the team next season when he is available for selection."

Brendan Rodgers added: "We can't hide our disappointment at the outcome of this situation, but we have to move on and support Luis in his decision.

"Luis has made a huge contribution to the squad this season and we respect his decision to accept the ban.

"He will be missed for the remainder of this season and the early part of next, but we will have the opportunity to welcome a better person and player when he returns."

Suarez's tussle with Chelsea defender Ivanovic in the teams' 2-2 draw at Anfield on Sunday had been "seen by millions of viewers both domestic and overseas, as well as generating a great deal of interest and debate amongst countless number of people".

It continued: "Whilst we accepted that Mr Suarez's reputation had been impacted, these unsavoury pictures would have given a bad image of English football domestically and across the world alike.

"All players in the higher level of the game are seen as role models, have the duty to act professionally and responsibly, and set the highest example of good conduct to the rest of the game - especially to young players."
