Improvement in Media Use

I believe it was our Director of Communications James Traynor who said we would all be seeing a new approach to the way Rangers news is publicised through our own media channels. In an interview which I cannot locate, Traynor said he and his colleagues had been working hard to put in place this new set-up in which the fans would be getting more news, interviews, video clips, photographs and would be able to get closer than ever to our heroes.

It has been in recent weeks, since the start of Pre-season that I have begun to see all these improvements and efforts really take shape and I have to admit I am very impressed.

On the official website there are around 4/5 new stories a day ranging from interviews with McCoist to articles on how the players are shaping up. Also, there is the very interesting Pre-season Tour 2013 Social Hub which has everything you could ever ask for. Ranging from interviews from both players and management staff, videos, pictures and tweets from both the club and the players it is a very exciting feature to become familiar with. It can be found here: http://rangers.wayinhub.com/

Not only that, but in recent weeks we have witnessed the launch of a new Rangers App which again gives you all the latest news, results, and audio pieces as they happen, interviews with players and legends alike conducted by Andy Goram and the world's first Hologram feature in which you can have your picture taken with your favourite player/legend anywhere in the world. The club also launched their official YouTube channel a couple of weeks ago as well as an account on Instagram.

Finally, the club are now holding Q&A sessions with our favourite stars on Twitter as seen last night with Nicky Law which proved very successful.

It appears to be a new dawn for the club in this regard and supporters are now overloaded with news from the club and players. For me personally, it is going a long way to building my excitement for the kick-off v Albion Rovers in under 2 weeks time!

It is now an absolute certainty that the club's official media channels are the number one places to go for all your Rangers news.

Well done Rangers.

Good to read a positive opinion on this.

I agree the club have improved their communications in a range of ways over the last while - from the website, to the social media interaction, right through to RangersTV. There's no doubt direct digital delivery is an important vehicle for the club going forward so it's vital we rationalise it to provide the best possible value.

Even better if, with the removal of MediaHouse, we can see an improvement in our PR to compliment our overall communications strategy. I'm not sure how involved Traynor is in that sense but I'd certainly like to see a more robust effort to defend the club wherever possible.

There has been a lot of improvements in the media side by Rangers, I'm a Rangers supporter, they are my only team, I know that there are guys on here that support teams down south, just wondering how our efforts compare to them.

i said awhile ago that we could learn lots from the likes of Man City(even though i have no time for them), their youtube channel is full of great behind the scenes content, which is accessible to all. the key is striking a balance between free content and RTV myself i would not subscribe to RTV as i attend all home games and most away so i feel it isnt the best for what i want (match coverage), but the stuff on youtube the mini interviews and training stuff I like to have a look at. where as people aborad can get great coverage using RTV but then "casual" fans abroad can keep up to date through free youtube content

we will never attract new support from foreign lands in the same way other British clubs do if the majority of video content is PPV.

Yeah the Media team seem to be on the right tracks and the question and answer thing on Twitter was good, I think the most important thing is to bridge the gap between players and fans and interaction between both is the best way, when you look at some players and not really Rangers players but the bigger clubs I always feel as if the players there seem to think they are better than the common fan because they are earning possible millions each year with a fan maybe earning less than 20k a year.

There has definetly been progress in our multimedia department....there has been noticeable improvements on the website, rangerstv as well as general fan interaction which is both welcome and shows the club are listening to the fans....

Slightly OT but for our tv station to progress further I think we need a better presenter....I might be the only one but Andrew Dickson annoys the hell out of me...a perfect example of why is in today's interview with lee Wallace....he doesn't ask a question he talks on and on and leads the interviewee into what he wants them to say....it just infuriates me hearing his voice constantly on these interviews. I'm sure most people want to hear more from the players/management than the presenter!

Totally agree with the OP. I don't think I've used the Official Site as much as I have done over the last few years, than in the previous 2/3 weeks.

I'm the same mate. I always used to find myself coming on RM for Rangers news and so on because the papers talked shite and the website was always slow for news. However, having being at T in the Park at the weekend, I landed on the Rangers website by accident on my return and I couldn't believe the amount of info that was available to me regarding everything I'd missed - whether it be friendlies, news or interviews. That is when it really hit home how impressive and improved our efforts had become.

Well said TPWA. It looks like were now seeing the fruits of JTs work and he deserves praise for it.

Thanks mate. I believe this can only be the work of JT. It is his job after all, right? And it is is what he said they were all working on together as a unit, right?

I credited Rangers at the end of the post but perhaps it should have read "Well done Rangers, and well done James Traynor."

It's funny you should mention RTV mate because that's really the only area I can still find room for improvement. The quality of video is great, especially for matches, but imagine having RTV/RTV highlights/interviews/whatever in HD? That must be the next step.

I agree about the presenter aspect. I remember watching the Stevie Smith interview following the game with Elgin and thinking "C'mon Andrew just finish the question already". Some of his questions are extremely long winded.

I think for RTV games we will have another full-time presenter/commentator lined-up. I'd love to see Neil McCann brought in if one day RTV returned as a television channel on Sky/Virgin etc. I think he is a terrific pundit who tells it like it as and as he sees it and he is terrifically neutral in all his views. He may be hard to prize away from Sky, though.

Like you said though mate, RTV is only really the place for improvement.

Agreed there have been good improvements and here's hoping for more of the same or even better. But what's not being reported? There are some important matters like: renaming Ibrox (still happening / when / what is the name / what are Supporters to expect?) - renaming MP (is renaming under consideration and if so what say will Supporters have?) - no Commercial Director (is one being recruited?) - Stadium improvements (any being done?) - Edminston House (progress?) - SPFL committee structures (what role will Rangers reps be taking?) - senior level discussions with Regan and Doncaster (a flavour of some of the stuff Rangers wants to put on the agenda) - days or reckoning (any happened yet and any indication of when the first day will happen?)

Wonder how much of the above will see the light of news reports in the next months.

Agree with all that - the club certainly need to communicate with us better in terms of regular sit-reps on various important issues.

Jim Traynor has been in the job for six months now so hopefully this is the start of him influencing such issues pro-actively. The club can only be stronger with the fans behind and alongside it. In that respect, we have to ask ourselves how we can hold those tasked with running the club are held to account.

A Rangers radio phone in to coincide with the BBC/Radio Clyde phone in would be immense. It has to happen.

That's an interesting suggestion actually.

Certainly the unofficial one in the other thread seems popular enough so the demand could well be there for a club one. Important the content is balanced, constructive and insightful though or it may prove counter-productive.

Agree, and someone like Traynor hosting it would guarantee a wider audience, more hits, advertising revenue etc. The media have been living off us for long enough.

I'd rather he concentrated on more important matters but as a weekly guest, then yes, his experience is obviously ideal.

Rangers TV is the best £5 I spend a month, and the last few weeks have been brilliant with the amount of footage they've put on it.

Same with the official website; so much better than before, and instead of just finding links from here to the site, it's the first place I go to online.

Apart from porn, of course.
