CAIXINHA RAVES ABOUT RANGERS 19-YEAR-OLD, CONFIRMS FIRST-TEAM ROLE

Pedro Caixinha has revealed that Ross McCrorie is one of five centre-backs available to him for their upcoming European encounter.

Pedro Caixinha’s side are hosting Luxembourg side Progres Niedekorn and the 19-year-old is a first-team option for the crucial match.

The Gers play the first-leg at Ibrox in the first qualifying round of the Europa League.

They will be looking to get their campaign off to a good start and start their journey towards the Europa League group stags.

Caixinha has highlighted at his pre-match press conference the qualities that McCrorie has at his disposal.

The Portuguese boss gave a special mention to the defender’s performance this summer for Scotland’s Under-20 international as he helped his nation finish third in the prestigious Toulon Tournament.

“We have Ross McCroire with us and he has done very well and was fantastic at the Toulon Tournament. He will be one of our five centre-backs,” Caixinha said, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.

McCrorie is a highly rated talent at Rangers and will be looking to make a major impression during the summer.

The teenager has been sent out to Scotland’s lower leagues in the past two seasons to experience senior football at Ayr United and Dumbarton.

He has now linked up with the Gers squad in the summer and will hope to force his way in ahead of the new season.

McCrorie would benefit the hugely from some of Rangers’ new recruits, with experienced defender Bruno Alves making the permanent switch to Ibrox and is someone who could be a perfect mentor.

We'll done Ross and best of luck!

Hope he kicks on. From good Rangers stock as well, which is always a bonus. Allegedly turned down an EPL move a while back, so seems to be highly thought of. Hopefully fulfills his potential.

Makes you wonder why we signed him tbh, all for signing youth players but we've got decent options at centre half at youth level.

Because his hairs the same colour as the bread packaging ??

Don't get me wrong, bates could be an average player, just seemed a bizarre signing to me at the time. Will probably see him punted about on loan then released imo.

Just wondering there. The 5 centre backs I assume would be:

Alves

Cardoso

McCrorie

D. Wilson

Bates

So im assuming that Kiernan isn't getting anywhere near the squad this season. Thank fuck! Well done to McCrorie for forcing himself into the plans for the season. Makes sense that the young lads can learn from the likes of Alves

It's Aidan, not Danny Wilson. It's about defenders available for tomorrow.

What type of CB is he mate? No-nonsense aggressive type?

Big, strong lad. Comfortable on the ball, solid in the tackle and reads the game well. Had he not went on loan he'd have been my choice to start when Bates stepped up. Versatile too. He's very much a CB but comfortable at RB and CDM too.

Sounds promising. Hopefully he can make the step up.
