Utilise Dorrans more

This was one of the most frustrating things for me today. Every single time Jack and Dorrans picked up the ball in the centre it went out wide (where inevitably it led to a cross being swung in to no-one).

If this is Pedro's instructions then it needs changed. Dorrans is one of very few in this squad that is capable of taking a man on and beating him.

Watching the ball being sprayed out wide constantly reminded me of Barry Ferguson in his second spell.

Don't know why he's playing so deep.

Davis didn't do that when we played a 4-4-2 under Walter, we do not need two CDM's at home to anyone.

Let him get forward.

In saying that, maybe it's because our defence get's penetrated more than a pornstar. But if that is the case then tell our FB's to sit tight instead, especially Wallace, all he does is give the ball back to their keeper after a cross.

I've noticed Tavernier is a wee bit more disciplined so far this season, but Wallace still gets caught out of position a ridiculous amount of times. He needs replaced.

If we had two decent, well disciplined full backs, we could play a diamond in the middle with only Jack sitting deep and Dorrans sitting in behind the two strikers.

Sign a fucking full back Pedro.

Part of the problem imo was that the wide midfielders were absolutely garbage. Tav seems to be more positive than Candieas and at least tries to get to the bye line whilst Windass is just plain dumb.

Dorrans was running all over the shop like Ferguson used to do and trying to win the game on his own. There is no point going through the tactics all week then having players suiting themselves on matchday.

We need a winger on the left with pace who can cross the ball and need to drop Miller and probably Candias too. For me these three guys/positions are our weakest areas and we need to get better in, and quickly!

It's taking a while but I think once Tav and Candeias click they'll work well together. Both put in plenty of decent crosses today but no-one was on the end of them.

Thought they worked well in the pre-season games and I was impressed with Candeas' directness and willingness to hit bye line & get cross in in those games.

The game vs hibs & again today he seemed to look inside or back and didn't try to get in behind until vey late in game. I hope he is the player that played Marseille and not the one from last week/today.

We are not good enough to play 4-4-2 time for rossiter jack and dorrans to play in a 4-5-1 with the latter supporting morelos imo.

I don't think we need to play rossiter and Jack in the same team. I would like to see the team when we have everyone fit the 5 across midfield being

Windass Niko/Pena Jack Dorrans Candeias

Niko has had a full pre season and provided an absolute horrific display from the bench today. High tempo games he's useless! Guy was finished in America.

Pena situation speaks for itself there looks like no positive outcome regarding him getting fit and stamping his authority on a first team jersey.

Think maybe you're right in Dorrans.  Someone said in today's match thread, take Miller off and put Rossiter in with Jack in midfield then push Dorrans up behind in an attacking midfield role. Dorrans def has ability to beat a man and has energy and desire to support both midfield and striker, maybe that what Pedro had planned for Pena but he appears to be crap so why not use Dorrans instead?

Said this today at the game that I thought Dorrans was meant to be a box to box midfielder, he should be pushing into the last 3rd telling that cunt miller to get up front and support Morelos.

I think candeias has really improved Tav

Jack and Dorrans have really solidified midfield, however, neither appear to have the creative streak we are missing.  Miller off for Nico, leaving Dorrans and Jack in midfield was the obvious option today.

Fully agree.

Pedro must watch a different game from me because again Miller was a wasted jersey and replacing him (agree with it being Niko, shite as he was), seemed so obvious.

As did Miller for Rossiter last week.

I've really tried to back Pedro but his sticking by Miller and stupid substitutions are making it so so difficult.

As for Dorrans. Thought he was poor today.

Dorrans, IMHO, was effective today but is a bit too similar to Jack.  That likeness solidifies our midfield but adds no creativity, I was hoping Pena could provide that spark, perhaps next season.

Haven't been particularly impressed by Dorrans so far. Partly due to the system maybe, partly due to poor play.

Thought Jack was good today and Dorrans was a bit ordinary... again.

Agree ,can't see what the fuss was over dorrans

Don't be offended by this, but ARE they decent crosses, if no one's on the end of them?

2 things come into play here & both are remedied by hard work in training.

You get your forward to make a run (near, far post, whichever) & you get your wide man to hit that area.

Or

Your wide man is likely to put in one or two sorts of cross, so your forward, instinctively, gets into position to get on the end of them.

Funny how the defenders (largely) managed to find a way to get in the way, as opposed to our forwards finding a way to beat them to it.
