That's an interpretation....

If (I appreciate it's a big "if"), the SPFL are consistent, then celtic's domestic fixtures are cancelled next week also.

This automatically creates a situation where "the national/local authorities have imposed restrictions preventing the match from taking place".

This is the "grey" in that.  celtic's home association is preventing them from playing domestic matches for infringement of SFA protocols set up to allow football to return following agreements put in place to comply with the Scottish Governments Covid Guidance.   Although  the CL Qualifier is not  an SPFL/SFA game, I'd be astonished if they think they can insist their rules trump anything put in place within the host country.

If this is done properly, and following the Aberdeen precedent, then I can't see how the  CL game can go ahead.

Unless the Gov specifically pull the plug on that game and say it can't take place, there's no restrictions imposed.

UEFA insist that their rules trumps any of a clubs domestic association. That's partly why they are based in Switzerland. Everything UEFA does is under Swiss law. If its 'only' the SFA enforcing restrictions, UEFA won't give a fuck if celtic are complying with THEIR guidelines.

Linfield situation could set the presedent for the season. Interesting to see what UEFA do there.

The timescale is the most interesting one. Where possible, I expect UEFA will always look for an alternative (even if its just a 24 hour delay) rather than pulling the plug completely. Given their is hours before kick-off it may well be a forfeit. (Although without knowing the specific circumstances, it may well be Linfield who have to forfeit if the UK regulations have been what has caused the issue.)

Aye, they shouldn't but coming into contact with someone who should be isolating isn't cause for you to isolate unless they are showing symptoms.

Would be fucking hilarious if he started showing symptoms this weekend, you can bet your life on that being covered up more than their pedo ring ever was

That's why it's grey....Swiss law has no authority in another country.  Good for setting up their own rules and managing a sport, but when it comes to things like this, they can't ignore another nations laws, advice and guidance.

If UEFA try to insist their game is more important than anything a national association put's in place in these circumstances, I'd be astonished if wee nippy didn't see that as undermining her governmental advice...and they'll pull the plug.

Surely its the government thats effectively pulled the plug on the games though, the scottish government only agreed to allow football to return if certain rules were followed, they havent been so the games have been postponed, which i am guessing was one of the possible outcomes from a rule break that the government put in place

What are the chances of the league actually being completed this season, given that Sturgeon basically said football is on a final warning?

I really can’t see us going a couple of months, let alone the full season, without some idiot player doing something daft again.

They wouldnt be ignoring the nations laws or guidance. They'd still be very much within them. Parkhead's not been shutdown, celtic's players aren't isolating and there are no travel restrictions to the UK from Iceland. Theyd only be ignoring the SFAs guidance. And that means nothing to what is essentially their supervisory body.

UEFA absolutely feel their competitions are above domestic ones. Clubs and domestic associations agree to that stipulation every year. UEFA games always take priority over domestic ones. If Sturgeon pulls the plug to the extent UEFA games can't be hosted here, it fucks us over.

Unless the Gov expressly withdraws permission for clubs to play (they havent) then it is the SFA and SPFL's decision whether games are played. Had Sturgeon made the call to postpone them on public health grounds and enforced that with the SFA/SPFL, it would be a much different conversation.

It’s bothersome that a entire season could hang on whether some young lad in Hamilton’s squad goes on a bender tbh

Sounds like thats what she did today, it sounded like in the meeting they had with the footballing authorities the government basically said they two teams dont play until next week

Exactly this. All the more reason for severe punishments for individuals and clubs from the off. The young lad from Hamilton won’t give a shit about a couple of games being postponed- he might think twice if there was the prospect of the club forfeiting games and the player facing a lengthy ban and a huge fine.

re: the rest of the season, how they plan on coping with the cup matches between the top tier clubs and some of the part-timers is anyone's guess.

Generaly Joe Bloggs is going to be working as normal, interacting and socialising as they're told they can do - they can't just self isolate in the run up to a match after getting a test. Hell, some of these guys will likely work on the same day as a match.

They didnt. They left it to the league bodies to do with the threat that any more and the whole thing gets pulled and we get Gov intervention to stop them playing.
