Revisionism regarding Gerrard

In this case it looks more like the team needed a turn over.

I think too many players in this side were content with just winning 55.

If Gerrard's attitude after he left was he accomplished his remit would it really be a surprise if that was the players attitude well.

Just hard to believe anyone can go to a big club and think 1 trophy in 3 years is enough ... you do have to keep freshening it up Mark Hately was saying last night that it makes such a difference to your attitude if a player of a similar standard to you playing the same position arrives in the summer

I think a lot of people are forgetting the terrible football we were playing under Gerrard and his complete reluctance to change his plans when the team were clearly struggling.  My only worry is that Gio like Gerrard seem to have their favourites who keep playing regardless of performance.  It can't be good for morale in the team when they know that they could perform well and get dropped while there are guys in the team who haven't tried all season but are still considered undroppable.

We would’ve been out of Europe and behind in the league going into the winter break if he’d stayed

Gio gave us a boost at the start, got us through the EL groups and got a lead in the league from games Gerrard wouldn’t have got through unscathed. Unfortunately the team has returned to type since the winter break and some poor team selection isn’t helping

I dont think either have covered themselves in glory this season.

I think Gerrard lost interest early on . Whether that was down to not getting additional funding , underestimating c....c or just losing out on the CL so early on , I don't know . But whatever it was , it was mirrored on the park where we never displayed the same hunger or desire from the players as last season .

Gio is at the other end of the spectrum . He has a quiet demeanor and you only hope that's only in front of the cameras . However the early signs aren't good . Whereas SG's team could display a confidence and arrogance that came from Gerrard himself , Gio's team show a fragility that worries you when under pressure or if theyre up against a strong team .

Gio's going nowhere . You don't sack a manager 6 months into a three and a half year deal with another man's team . He'll get next season , clear out those that have been here too long , get his own players in and hopefully grow in belief that sometimes a second season gives .

Not excusing the disappointing results but the early winter break and arguably the african cup of nations all played a part in disrupting the momentum that had built up since xmas.

injuries have shafted us more recently

Average points per game this season - based on Gerrards 13 in charge vs Gio's first 13.

Gerrard 2.3 pts per game.

Gio 2.5 pts per game

After 20 games Gio is now on 2.3 pts per game. Which factors in 2 loses against celtic.. Which means he has a better record against the rest of the league than Gerrard this season.

The reason Gerrard was 4 points clear was because celtic had lost 3 of their first 6... Since then they've went undefeated whilst we have remained horribly inconsistent.

But aye Gerrard would have won the league by hogmanay.

It’s a chicken or the egg situation. They were dropping points until Christmas when we were on a winning run. You could argue that us turning awful took the pressure off of them too. You’ve still got to put the points on the board but it’s easier to build momentum and confidence when your rivals are dropping points every other game.

Between October and January 1st they dropped 4 points.

In that same time frame we also dropped 4 points... Both of which coincidently happened with Gerrard in charge.

They haven't lost a game in the league since the 19th of September!!! It sucks admitting it.. But they have been relentless.
