Cheap Managerial Choices

Ssshhhh, no praise for a euro final making manager allowed

I think Gio is from the Dutch style of “set up a system and let the players figure it out”, which is associated with Feijenoord, rather than the Ajax style model of a clear style with really defined roles.

Clearly Gio had some tactical know how to make us tough to beat, but we had no clear consistent plan to break down sides domestically. That meant when things weren’t working out, we default to old habits (Tav/Borna crossing from anywhere).

We need the opposite to Gio as our next hire, or Beale needs to become this, FAST. Someone who gives the side a clear style of play, with plans to break down sides as a team rather than relying on individual brilliance.

For what it’s worth, Gio gets backed last summer with the money Beale got, we probably drag things to the wire on the league. But for his system where you’re relying on individual players to break down sides, having the likes of a fat Morelos, Kent, Sakala and Matondo as your main attacking threats, was a disaster.

Never seen anyone not praise him for his Euro run.

He was great when he used someone else’s system, rotten with his own.

Exact opposite, in europe he used his own tactics, last season he reverted to gerrards when it was going poorly and we got worse

Had lawerence not got crocked i think gio stays in the job, he had a plan to break down but Matondo starting badly, kent not bothering his arse, lawerence being crocked, pretty much ruined his whole attacking threat, especially as he signed a penalty box striker to be on the end of 3 attacking players setups

Both managers were backed with cash brought in from sales .Ridvan ,Matondo Davies and Colak were ball park the same as What was spent this summer .We did bring in more last year though to be fair .
