Oh fuck. This is the last thing we need.

Terrific player and one we'll sorely miss. The only slight comfort is that we've got Barry and Edu as cover. I doubt either will be able to fulfil the role quite like he does though.

What's it going to take for Thomson to get back in the side? Mendes/Ferguson and Edu will have a years worth of experience playing together and probably be at full fitness etc.

I'm looking far too forward into the future here, aren't I?

KEVIN THOMSON is today facing up to the reality that his season could be over after hospital scans revealed major damage to his left knee.

The 24-year-old will now see one of Europe's top specialists in London on Wednesday but medical staff at Murray Park already fear the midfielder may be out of action for up to eight months.

Thomson season has been wrecked after he tussled for the ball with David Fernandez at Kilmarnock yesterday.

He was in major distress as he lay on the Rugby Park turf and had to carried off by stretcher following the incident eight minutes from the end of the 4-0 win.

Club doctor Paul Jackson accompanied the stricken player to hospital this morning where tests were carried out.

This really is a blow, Get Well Soon Thommo. He really was starting to become a major player for us and will be missed. Can't believe all the Barry bashing on here though some people have very short memories.

Granted hes obviously not match fit yet but theres only one way to rectify that!

Ok theres my two bobs worth for my first post.

In the short term this is certainly going to affect our title bid. I thought he was our best player yesterday and he has really come into his own this season.

But looking at the longer term, Thomson looks like he has done his cruciate for the second time and he isn't even 25 yet.

In the modern game many players do it once and come back as good at ever, however very few players do it twice and reach anywhere close to the same level which they were at prior to the injury.

All the best Kevin (tu)
