Gordon Strachan: Lose 4 win 4

GORDON STRACHAN believes Celtic could lose all four Old Firm derbies and STILL win four titles in a row.

The Hoops boss goes into today’s showdown against Rangers with just one win from six games at Ibrox.

But he said: “These games are not all that critical any more.

“There are a lot of things involved in winning the title — not just Old Firm games.”

Asked if Celtic could net title No4 even if they lose every Glasgow derby he added: “That’s conceivable, yes. It used to be the case that these games were the be-all and end-all, but it’s changed.”

Strachan takes his side to Ibrox knowing he is under pressure to get a result following the shock 4-2 defeat at Parkhead in August.

But if he is feeling the heat, then he’s hiding it very well.

Indeed, he believes the classic head-to-heads between Scotland’s big two are now over-rated in terms of deciding the destination of the league championship.

Last season, the Hoops delivered savage blows to Gers’ hopes with two successive triumphs at Parkhead in the space of just 11 days in April.

But Strach said: “There is a lot of toing and froing, you never know when you are going to get a good win and results.

“It’s more critical that you pick up the results away from home and keep on winning.

“If you can get a good home record while picking up points away from home then that’s great.

“The Old Firm derbies are certainly critical to the supporters of Rangers and Celtic. A victory and they can feel happy for two or three months.

“But in 10 years’ time when everyone looks back, nobody takes any interest in who did what in these games.

“They just look at who won the titles.”

I've said before that i wouldn't be surprised if we done the whitewash over them, but still lost the league.

Scraping draws against Dundee Utd and the like may not seem like the end of the world just now, but they really hit home when you need to go to Easter Road in April looking for a win.

I remember Souness coming away with the same rubbish, but a least Souness said it in his 1st season,he soon realised that it was a wrong comment,Strapon,s saying it after 3 and a half seasons,is he trying to prepare his supporters for a defeat,or to deflect the flack in case they get beaten.
