We are Rangers in name and history only

Recommended Posts

In the early 80's when john Greig became manager, we were pretty shit as well. Although Greig was another playing 'legend', he was never really manager material. Plus, he was hampered by not being able to buy decent players due to ground re-building.

All these excuses may be valid, but Greig had to go in the end as he wasn't up to the job.

Is Ally in the same bracket? It's looking a bit like it!

Greig was hampered by a lack of money, Ally has an illegal transfer embargo to contend with and much more off the field politics than John had to endure.

Greig was attempting to win at the top leve of Scottish football. Ally is struggling to make an impact in the bottom tier.

I fear that although both are legends that neither has management credentials.

Your nightmares are bland. My nightmare is waking up with a smeltic top next to me and realising I'd fucked a fat ugly tarier cow the night before and she is still wearing it!!!!!!! Reeking of come and unwashed. Wee dirty.

I don't let Ally's legend status shadow my judgement. I have confidence in him though. He is capable of getting us back to the top of Scottish football in an unbroken run. If we don't get promotion sack him. Simples.

an unbroken run is worthless if we are simply repeating the same mistakes over and over

of course it matters whats on the park, when ibrox was less than half full in the dark days it was because of what was on the park, the fans never started rangers

the fact is nothing at the club now is what rangers have been all about for most of us that still follow the club

Yes it is a bad time but it is still rangers.

I agree things have to change and a I want us to

Get back to the top but if we don't and we end up playing 2nd/3rd div football forever I'll still support us.

Are I saying I wont??

oh and for the record, my post isnt glory hunting, im more than willing to take a few knocks on the road to recovery, considering ive championed the use of youngsters many seasons ago as we needed them then, and this season i said i would prefer SFL stalwarts instead of SPL primadonnas

My point is that nothing about this current rangers set up is what the rangers family is all about

Champions league or SFL 3, the same core values should be evident for us to see and they are not, there is no team ethic, no rapport with the fans, no sense of togetherness, after what we have came through that last value should be more evident than ever, hell we can barely get mccoist telling the truth about the team in his post match interviews, if they have played shite they have played shite, we arent blind we can see that, dont try and take the cunt out of us

The players clearly dont give a shit, they are simply stumbling their way through the league like an impatient child who cannot be bothered doing the hard work for the reward, the players seem to think they have the god given right to win and promote without realising that they have to work and work hard for it

Another 2 seasons like this one cannot be allowed to happen, we won the league, whoppee, we also regressed in performance levels and seemingly ability since the start of the season, part time players who are likely working 38 hours a week elsewhere should not be fitter than our team, not now not ever, but they are, they are hungrier, fitter, leaner, meaner, stronger, and more determined to win

Thats what the rangers of old used to have in abundance, we've had some pretty abysmal teams in the past, hell look at some of the 9iar players, they werent good players but they were willin g to run through a brick wall, then turn round and kick it for good measure, just to play for the club

we are a hollow shell of what we used to be, and the most damning aspect of it all is that we dont seem to have an idea of what direction we are going, if we are planning on being the rangers of old then fair enough, i might not agree with the plan but its a plan, let ally buy/recruit the fighters and supplement them with one or two gems, get them all fighting like fuck in their positions, but he isnt, he's playing guys out of position, guys not willing to bleed blue

If rangers plan on going down the football route, developing youngsters, playing attractive and decimating dick advocaat style football then we need to change what we have at the club, bacuase the current guys in charge of the players cant even get them to outplay part timers

i'll support the club, always have done and always will, but if the same continual mistakes are being made by the same guys at the club i will speak my mind about it mate

We will see in time. I predict Ally will be Rangers manager this time next year with yet another division romped.

greens departure has most likely secured another year for ally, however i dont see the next CEO giving him anymore than what we have just now, infact i think he'll be told to REDUCE the squad wage bill, then we'll see if mccoist is truely a manager or not

Being a PLC now will bring about change, if the season ticket sales and ticket sales in general start to slump they will make the changes no doubt about that. The product on the park has IMO got worse since that motherwell game. Before then our fitness was evident, particularly in the second half. Since then we have obviously let the training go, the belief has obviously been why try too hard when we are going to win the league anyway.

We have seen the boardroom changes this week. People are not turning up at Ibrox like they were, so believe me change is coming! Whether its management, players or both only time will tell

How would you go about reducing the wage bill and improving the team at the same time?

I totally disagree. No matter how bad a team is on the field (and we all know the reasons why) it's wrong to imply that we are Rangers in name only. Within a couple of seasons we will be looking strong again and we are likely to have one a major trophy (one of the cups obviously) but in the meantime we are Rangers in every way, it just happens we have a team full of lads who have gotten us through the first phase.

Well we have been regularly played off the park by guys on 100.quid a week, we dont need to spend 5 grand a week on players to win part time division

If the plan is get to the spl asap and then start future planning, then we can simply buy the best the sfl has to offer until we get there

Bet you gretna didnt spend about 50 grand a week on their starting 11 wages

I don't think that anybody thought this season would go without incident. It would have been more difficult to NOT win this league with the players available to us, though, and the fact that we decided against building the kind of foundations that would have seen us playing good football and attacking teams with short, quick passing is perhaps the most disappointing thing.

I couldn't agree more with your statement. :uk:

I would suggest that you don't know what "hard knocks" really are. Were you around when we had to endure our biggest rivals win 9-in-a row, or the European cup? As a Rangers fan I found that harder to take than any of what we have faced over the last two years.

I started going in '63/64 season but too young to remember winning that league. I went to almost every game when the scum did 9iar. I was almost 18 before I saw Gers winning the title at Easter rd in '75.

IMO the last 2 yrs have been harder than that x 10.

As the title says...............

i turned 31 this year, so i can safely say that before last summer aside i have had an amazing run as a rangers fan, since 1982 we pretty much dominated scottish football especially in the first decade of Murray.

I know some might say guys like me are spoiled as fans, we had never seen the dark times like the older bears when the club were finishing 5th in the first division etc, when the club stumbled along barely winning, and they could very well have a point

9iar, euro final, ecks final day dramas, walters return, numerous cups, finals, euro runs and the player, my god the players we had at the club over the years, the laudrups, the gazza's to guys like numan, albertz, prso,

we signed champions league winners, world cup winners, international stars, my god it was good

But the shit hit the fan, and god knows if we will ever recover properly, this season has been an utter embarrassment, forget us winning the league, for what we have spent this season it is almost shameful that for over 33% of our league games this season we havent won, and god knows how fucking rotten we have been in the 66% of games we have won

Yes i know we have went through administration, the embargo and league licence nonsense meant we only had a short period to bring in players, but watching that today, and numerous other days, we are a shell of the club we used to be, aside from name and history, nothing out there is the rangers we all know and remember

No passion, no intelligence, no fight, no desire to go the extra mile, no willingness to put your body in where it got hurt, remember richard goughs bandaged head at ibrox after the CSKA Moscow game, or big dado scoring with his head against celtic when bandaged up and stitches still in it, could you ever imagine one of this current crop of players even considering that let alone going through with it

Charles Green has gone, good or bad it makes no difference now, we have ANOTHER chance to start again, wipe the slate clean, and i mean completely, management team, big money players, coaches, youth coaches (if they arent up to the job) everything linked to the players that go out onto the park.

Many on here have said this is how its going to be until we are in the SPL, im sorry but another 2 years of shite like this season at a minimum, and remember the first division isnt a pisstake like this one was, will be too much to bare for a lot of people, especially the ones that are on the breadline financially

I had high hopes of a new beginning, a new dawn for our club last summer, but the last 8 months have scunnered me to the point where my love for the club comes from the glorious past, because if we keep on this path the glorious future is a fucking pipe dream

Nail on head

I'm the same age as you so have also enjoyed a "spoilt" life as a bear but we really are at a low we have never been to just now
