SCOTTISH football stars are routinely breaking strict rules banning them from betting on the game, we can reveal.

Gambling is so rife that stars regularly post their betting slips on their own social media sites despite SFA rules banning betting on any match.

We easily found a “team” of 11 players with top clubs whose Twitter accounts show evidence of football betting.

It follows Rangers manager Ally McCoist’s claim that there are hundreds of gamblers in the game, as he questioned why Ibrox midfielder Ian Black was being singled out.

Black was charged by the SFA on three alleged counts of violating gambling rules.

McCoist has queried the decision to charge the star as players’ union leaders say better guidance is needed on the rules.

The SFA’s Disciplinary Rule 22 states: “No player or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall bet in any way on a football match.”

But that rule against gambling is being ignored.

Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes used his Twitter account to show bets placed on English Premiership matches and Champions League ties.

His Dons teammate and Scotland under-21 captain Ryan Jack appears to have bet on Manchester United beating Liverpool on January 13, posting “Sorry about my betting today!!” alongside a photograph of a handwritten coupon.

Rangers midfielder Kyle Hutton boasted on October 30 last year of being “30 quid up for the night” when he predicted Arsenal and Reading drawing 4-4 at full-time in their League Cup tie.

Teammate Darren Cole also appeared to be quids in when he posted “How easy” beneath a photograph of an £80 William Hill bet on Bayern Munich to beat Barcelona in the Camp Nou.

The gamble paid out £272 when Munich won 3-0.

Inverness defender Josh Meekings posted four winners including a seven-team accumulator on November 28.

Ryan Dow of Dundee United and Jordon Forster of Hibs also posted pictures of football betting slips.

Kilmarnock trio Danny Racchi, who left the club in April, Jude Winchester – who left Rugby Park in the summer transfer window – and Ross Barbour all posted bets.

Morton midfielder Dougie Imrie who appeared for St Mirren 30 times last season, put images of two separate betting website accumulators online, one including Hibs versus Hearts and Rangers against Elgin, and another winner comprising English and Spanish matches.

Dundee’s on loan Celtic player Lewis Toshney, another under-21 cap, uploaded a five-team William Hill accumulator in February.

Last week, McCoist said: “There is a list of tens and tens and tens of footballing people involved in the game who all stick coupons on and have an honest football bet.

“Our boys gave me that in 10 minutes. I’m obviously not going to start naming names as that would be ridiculous.

“But all I’m trying to say to everybody is, if we all need to sit down, whether that’s the SFA, the players’ union, Ladbrokes, whoever, we need to get around a table and get the whole thing sorted out.”

PFA Scotland chief executive Fraser Wishart believes players need to be educated about gambling.

He has asked the SFA for a review of the rules.

The PFA have been tackling the problem of gambling in Scottish football since 2011 and more than 600 players from 28 different clubs have now received training.

Wishart said: “I think, in general, footballers just need to be a bit more aware of the regulations that are in place at this moment.

“We’ll certainly be writing to the SFA to ask for a review and I think it’s important that we do it quite quickly and at this time.

“I think now’s the time to make a real effort to review the rules in Scotland.

“We’ve got players who perhaps have put on an accumulator but technically they are breaching rules.

“Is it appropriate to deal with them in the same manner as somebody who has a serious problem? Is it working?

“Is it workable? What I mean is, can the governing body actually police the rules? I think we have to have a proper review of the rules because it affects everybody in Scottish football.”

I was pointed in the direction of this by someone.

I dont normally read any of the pieces by the Daily Rhebel but they are the first I've seen to publicly name players other than Ian Black guilty of betting.

Wonder if the corrupt cabal that is the SFA will act on this evidence provided.

The support from within the game for black over this has been excellent tbh

PFA are willing to back him to the hilt as far as I can gather, other players saying he is being unfairly singled out and managers saying likewise.

Hopefully all can make a stand against this corrupt cabal running our game.

I personally won't be happy until the shysters disband.

Funny how the only celtic player is a nobody on loan at Dundee, I would of thought there was many other much higher profile scumplayers who are betting on games.

There's an article in SoS Sports section today where lemon is saying that the rules are clear. He also admits that betting is rife, but follows that up with if any of his players involved in betting on matches involving septic, they'd be in serious trouble. The rule is NO betting on any matches, but it sounds like the same excuse as the reasoning that English is putting forward.

Perhaps their players get a nice wee special heads-up not to do such things as they will soon be used against certain others.

Does anybody think Ian Black has a gambling problem, 200 bets in 7 years does that amount to an obsesssion. I thought that Ian should be punted if he bet against Rangers, but to mete out any kind of heavy punishment would be petty in the extreme. I am glad that Ally decided to back his man, innocent till proven guilty.

The part where it states no player under sfa jurisdictoin can bet on any football match.so does that also inclued ameture players who also come under the good old sfa., or is it just if you play for rangers. On a side note was told that it was ladbrookes who tipped of the sfa, and that was from one of their managers

As I don't gamble and follow the sport for the love of the game , I don't think gambling helps the game. But as we all know, the gambling organizations seem to be some of the biggest sponsors of sport. How can football take money from these companies and then punish the players? Is this one of those "Do as I say , not as I do) sort of things. I'm still not over the fact that Hank Aaron was left out of Major League Baseball activities due to the fact he was a spokesperson for a Casino. If any of these sports were really bothered by the gambling, they wouldn't take their money, then cap players salaries at 50k a year and charge a fiver a seat to see a game. Just My Opinion....

Spot on Oleg

Remember how quickly the scum paid back that ebt they were doing for that Brazilian dud.

It just happened to coincide with John Reid leaving parliament and joining the board at the peadodome.

I'm pretty sure he knew that the government were going to crack down on tax avoidance schemes

And tipped them off.

Knew about it or asked for it ? That's a big question I'd like to know the answer to.

According to another article in the SM today, the main line of investigation is the 3 bets that Black has apparently placed against his own team.

From the SM .. im not posting a link to the article.

"The three bets Black has allegedly made against his team are what this is all about. Nothing else.

Black has been singled out, apparently, because he identified himself over the phone to a bookie while making a bet that included his own side. That triggered a ‘suspicious activity’ protocol to which they bookies are obliged to stick. It’s no giant mystery"

If what the author alleges in this article, turns out to be true, then at least one of these bets would have been made whilst Black was a Rangers Player, because part of the Protocol is for the Bookies to inform the sports governing body (in this case the SFA). Surely to fuck they have not sat on this for years ....
