thoughts on this? the Daily Record's spin on it makes it out to be the big bad Rangers fans bullying him, but interesting read nonetheless.

Kyle Hutton: My only Rangers regret was sending THAT tweet.. I became a scapegoat after that

THE midfielder left Ibrox in the summer and has joined Queen of the South but he insists his only regret is sending a tweet about relaxing during a tough time on the pitch for the club.

IT'S the one tweet Kyle Hutton wishes hed never sent. And the only regret hell ever have about his Rangers career.

The 24-year-old midfielder left Ibrox in the summer after five of the most turbulent years in the clubs history.

Thrown into a Champions League clash against Manchester United by Walter Smith at 19, Hutton also won an SPL title and League Cup there.

But he barely got to savour those highs before Rangers were plunged into crisis.

After their liquidation and re-birth in Scotlands bottom tier, he could have quit along with several other Murray Park youngsters.

Instead, he stuck around in the hope that Ally McCoist would put his faith in youth as the club started their climb back to the top.

But it didnt happen for Hutton. An influx of new signings, injuries at key moments and that tweet put paid to that.

After training he innocently commented that he was going home to enjoy a relaxing afternoon in front of the TV. But with Rangers toiling on and off the park at that time, Hutton was made a scapegoat.

His apparent indifference didnt go down to well with the Ibrox faithful. So much so that at Gers next home game a banner was unfurled that read: Less time tweeting, more time training.

Hes been stigmatised ever since.

Hutton, who this week signed for Queen of the South , said: Sometimes when youre young you do things without thinking and it gets the fans backs up. But I was just a boy. All sorts of footballers at a young age do stuff they shouldnt.

In the fans eyes it appeared worse than it actually was. At times the supporters got on my back if I wasnt playing well. I could handle that. But the whole Twitter thing was completely blown out of proportion.

I see footballers every daytweeting that theyre going home to chill out. But when I happened to write it all hell broke loose.

I got a call from Rangers media department telling me to switch my phone off and not to talk to anyone. I couldnt believe it.

I went on to my Twitter feed and there must have been thousands of people slaughtering me for what Id said.

It was massively blown out of proportion. Maybe people were looking for a scapegoat. But they have to realise I was young and I was always going to make slight misjudgments.

I didnt mean anything bad by it and I certainly wasnt trying to wind people up. But the stigma stuck to me. When Rangers had a bad result or I didnt play well, Id get a real Twitter backlash. It was something that followed me around.

The thing is, Im not the lazy type. If there were double training sessions or anything like that Id be doing it.

Every player had gone home after training that day. It wasnt as if I was sneaking out before anyone else.

Hutton came through the ranks at Murray Park to make his European debut in a battle of Britain against Manchester United in 2010.

Smith had enough faith in the youngster to pitch him in against Bursaspor and PSV Eindhoven that same season. At that stage, the future looked bright for him at Ibrox. He said: The Man United game was surreal. The gaffer pulled me during the day and said that Id be starting. Then he walked away from me!

I ran out of the training ground to tell my mum and dad. Even they werent sure if I was serious or not. But being in the tunnel before the game was some experience. Standing there next to those players, it was incredible.

I was up against Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick in the middle of the park. It was some education for me.

I tried to take it all in and its a night Ill never forget.

The fact Walter trusted me to play in those big European matches was a real confidence boost for me. Ill never forget what he did for me he gave me the opportunity to kick on in my career. At that point, all I was thinking about was being at Rangers for a long time. I wanted to achieve so much at Rangers.

But then everything started to happen off the pitch.

After Rangers financial demise, some of Huttons youth team mates like Gregg Wylde, Jamie Ness and Rhys McCabe decided to leave the club.

But not Hutton. He said: When the club dropped down to the Third Division, I opted to stay. But the manager brought a lot of players in and the young boys were held back.

Personally, I thought the young boys who were there would have won the Third Division comfortably. Playing in that league, gaining experience, would then have allowed them to kick on. But it didnt work out like that.

So it was disappointing. We had to work twice as hard just to get in the squad and I always felt a step behind other people in my position.

Despite a brief spell in the side
last season under caretaker boss Kenny McDowall, Hutton knew his time was up at Ibrox.

But hes convinced he can enjoy a fresh start with Queens and is relishing going back to Ibrox. He said: Halfway through last season I felt it was time for me to go.

It was hard to accept because Im a Glasgow boy and Rangers have been a huge part of my life. Its all Ive known since I left school.

I didnt have a lot of confidence at Rangers and I need to go and play
now. I have to show people what I can do and hopefully I can repay James Fowlers faith in me.

Ill look forward to going back to Ibrox to play for Queen of the South.

Ultimately, I want to show that Im the same kid who played against Manchester United that night at Ibrox and held my own.

BP in backing player shocker ;)

I can't even recall the tweet tbh, and I think, under the right set up, he could've been a handy player.

Just wasn't to be

you have to remember though, the fans were forking out every week to watch overpaid players struggle to get by part time players. it appeared that they were putting in a couple of hours in the morning at Auchenhowie then chilling out for the rest of the day. that's an insult to the fans imo

When went down to Div 3 nearly everyone fucked off except a few. Those who fucked off still get slaughtered to this day. The ones that stayed soon got slaughtered (inc Wallace last year) - there's a lot of pressure being a Rangers player!!

I always respected the fact that they stayed when so many others walked away but it didn't give them a free pass to play as poorly every week as some of them did.

Hutton was never a world beater and I was never as big a fan of him as some people were but he could have been a decent player for us in the lower leagues if he had a player who complemented him a bit more playing beside him.

The fact him and Black were our midfield pairing for a lot of weeks pretty much killed any chance he ever had of making it here.

Agreed. Decent player, should have had his chance in the 3rd and 2nd, along with the rest of the talented young players, but never quite worked out.

Wish him well, but we're far superior now.

Edit: also very courageous journalism, all the Rangers fans fault for his daft tweet.
