Players get tapped up all the time..It happens in cricket as well I'm sure..He might even regret his initial emotional reaction to loosing a potentially excellent young player to a BIG CLUB..I still like Ole Bumble..:pipe:

Ridiculous .That’s the only word Josh Windass could find to describe his Old Firm initiation.

He’d heard stories about the Glasgow derby’s atmosphere. He thought he knew what to expect.

But when Windass stepped foot inside Hampden for Rangers’ clash with Celtic in the Scottish Cup he was blown away.

His new club’s penalty shoot-out victory made it a day to remember for the Accrington Stanley frontman, who arrives at Ibrox this summer.

But incredibly, the moment he realised just how big a club he’d joined was when Celtic scored.

Windass was in the Rangers end for the semi-final clash and could feel the passion from the supporters.

He discovered that it meant so much to them it was is if they would rather DIE if their team lost.

The whole experience gave Windass the perfect insight into what he’s letting himself in for next season.

Along with Accrington’s Matt Crooks, he’ll join Mark Warburton’s squad in June for a crack at the Scottish Premiership.

He has been excited about moving to Glasgow since signing a pre-contract back in January.

But his day out at Hampden on April 17, when Gers triumphed to set up a Scottish Cup Final date with Hibs, convinced him he was right to knock back English Championship sides to sign for the Ibrox club instead.

In his first interview since signing, “When I was younger I was told about all the big derbies – Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle v Sunderland and Rangers v Celtic.

“So I’d heard about how good the Old Firm game was. But once I got to Hampden, the atmosphere surpassed all my expectations.

“I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. It was ridiculous.

“No disrespect to Accrington but we don’t have that many fans. You don’t really see how much it means to them.

“But you feel it up in Glasgow.

“I was in among the Rangers fans and it was incredible watching their reactions during the game.

“It was literally like if they lost the game they were going to die.

“I was saying to them when Celtic scored: ‘Calm down lads, it’s just a goal.’

“It was crazy but going there was a great insight into what the club are all about.

“As soon as I got to the ground that day I realised that I’d joined a huge club. I got into Hampden about five seconds before kick-off so the crowd were going off their heads.

“I just thought: ‘Oh my God, this is unbelievable.’

“And I’ve heard it’s even better when the game is at Ibrox or Parkhead.

“When I signed in January I was buzzing but I didn’t really think too much about Rangers because I had six months left to play for Accrington Stanley.

“I had just got injured so the move wasn’t really on my mind.

“Now that the move is getting closer – and having been to the Old Firm game – I can’t wait to join because they are clearly a massive club. But I’m still focused on helping Accrington win
promotion to League One.”

Windass couldn’t help them seal an automatic slot yesterday as they were held to a 0-0 draw with Stevenage and now face the play-offs.

He accepts that he’s stepping up a level by moving to Rangers but the 22-year-old says no one should doubt either his or Crooks’ credentials.

He cited Gary Hooper’s switch from Scunthorpe to Celtic a few years ago as a perfect example of what he could achieve at Gers.

Windass said: “Look at the way myself and Matty have performed this season and where Accrington are in the league.

“Celtic signed Hooper a few years ago from Scunthorpe United and he went on to score a load of goals in Scotland and in the Champions League. I don’t think it matters where you buy a player from as long as he’s a good player. Different players take different routes in their career.

“So whether you sign someone from Barcelona or Accrington Stanley, if they’re the same standard it shouldn’t matter.

“And that’s possible because they might reach a level at a different stage of their career. So I don’t understand people who would question Rangers signing players from Accrington.

“Europe was probably the main reason why I joined the club. People will say you can’t go from playing at Accrington to the Europa or Champions League.

“But I fully believe – and I can speak for Matt as well – that we can play at a far higher level than we’re at just now.

“We’ve shown that with our performances this season. I’ve heard the European nights at Ibrox are incredible and I want to sample that.

“I was at Old Trafford eight years ago when Rangers played Manchester United in the Champions League and the away fans were unreal that night.”

Windass has rattled in 16 goals for Stanley this season despite not being an out-and-out striker.

He’s been pushed further forward by Stanley gaffer John Coleman and hasn’t looked back since. Rangers faced stiff competition for his signature – Arsenal were reportedly keen on him in November – but Windass insists he couldn’t turn down Warburton.

Especially as dad and former Aberdeen star Dean was always pointing him in the direction of Ibrox.

He said: “It’s weird because at Accrington under our old boss James Beattie I was
playing in central midfield. I felt I was doing well but not at my full potential.

“I wasn’t going forward at all. But the new manager has pushed me on and I’ve been playing off the front.

“I wasn’t getting goals from midfield but since switching I haven’t stopped scoring.

“I prefer playing up there because I get more chances and I can use my pace more.

“I’m a totally different player to my dad. He wasn’t really athletic but I’d like to think I am. I’ve got physique and I’m quick.

“Clubs from the Championship wanted me as well as Rangers. But I spoke to my old man and my agent at the time. Paul Gascoigne was my dad’s hero so he wanted me to join Rangers anyway.

“In some people’s opinion the Scottish Premiership might not be as good as the Championship down here.

“But we all agreed you just couldn’t turn down a club the size of Rangers.”

Good wee interview and he's right, he has joined a huge club, so now it's up to him to make the most of it as being at Rangers can be the making of him.
