Were the contracts cancelled by mutual consent or did they take a % of contract to leave? Hearing conflicting statements so would like to know. Cheers

Best place for a definitive and truthful answer on Rangers finances would be a cletic supporters forum.

:pipe:

I heard they paid Rangers such was their gratitude.

Unless a player actively requests a move or release, he'll get a pay-off. Whether it's mutual termination or even a full transfer, the player is entitled to the remainder of his contract which is often negotiated.

However, if a player asks for a move, then he waived his right to this.

I read that in both the Secret Footballer and Secret Agent in The Guardian. The Secret Footballer was bought for £5.5M, got a signing-on fee at his new club and his old club paid him £500K of his £1.4M annual salary upon departure.

On that note, it adds another twist to the Scott Allan saga. Three weeks before signing for Celtic, he requested a transfer to us and thus waived his right to a full year's pay for the intent to join us. His tune changed.

I am sure they would have had there contracts bought out meaning there would have been a settlement figure.

Big question is who next , Bell will be on very good wage and may well be surplus to requirements if there's no intention to use him.

He's been very unfortunate with injuries over the last couple of Seasons so he must have had best wage/appearance money at the club

Its cheaper than letting them be 4th or 5th choice and paying a full season's wages.

Pay £200k now and get them off the wage bill or pay £600k over the course of the season.

Anyone that thinks the later is the "better option" is probably the kind of person that looks at Wonga or other pay day loans and thinks

"...only 1500% APR? BARGIN!"

Who was it we paid off with a full year left on their contract and just gave them the full whack? :anguish:

Not 100% sure but I think it could have been another great signing James Beattie. Signed him when he was in worse shape than Boyd was when he left took months to get him into shape and then if memory serves me right put him out on loan to Blackpool and brought in another striker on loan ( might have been Healy ) then fucked him off after tearing up his contract and paying him off.Good bit of business.

If they get paid off, it's disappointing to think more money has gone out the door but it's for the best all round.

Looking forward, here's hoping we've seen the last of paying off overpaid has-beens, and any players out the door in future we'll be selling on for a healthy profit. Can't get it right every time of course, but we should be aiming to bring on as many guys as possible and flog them when we can make millions out of it.

Every player has his price but not at the expense of putting a consistent winning team on the park. We need a balance or we will end up like Scumdee Utd - a selling club. I'm sure MW will fight tooth and nail to keep our best (most valuable) players because winning will be foremost in his mind.

Im sure he will fight to keep any players that other clubs might be interested in but the economic reality is that if good offers are made for good players the club will look at selling. This is counterbalanced by the fact that as one good player departs then another good find replaces him.Im pretty sure you will find that this might well be the MW and Rangers way for the future.

Having an employee on the books is much more expensive than just their salary, they were surplus to requirements, I assume they were offered a pay off to leave - as MacGregor says, its completely fair of the manager to let them know they won't be playing and given their quality its unlikely we'd be getting much of a fee for them.

Good business, good for the squad - no idea why anyone would question these decisions

No player cancels a contract without a pay off unless they are moving to a contact where they are paid significantly more

That's the problem with downsize Fc fans, they are more interested in us.

They'll have had some sort of compensation for their contracts but it'll be no where near the amount they'd have made from seeing out their remaining year. Otherwise it'd be completely illogical to let them go.

Even if they were paid their salaries in full it would be cheaper for the club than keeping them on the books
