Anyone know any good websites or youtube links that teach you to play?

Most sites have practice tables that you can play. These tables don't cost to play but equally winnings are not worth anything either.

Be warned though. They program the computers to be dumb so that you win. I've bet high on ridiculous hands and somehow 'win'.

Try the same on a cash table and you'll have a short visit.

I learned the basics in a couple of hours a few years ago when I started playing around 2007/2008. There was a massive boom back then, everyone was playing and you could get a live game pretty much every night of the week if you wanted.

I was pretty good for a spell, won a tournament in the summer of 08 and pocketed 10 grand. Seemed to die off about a year later though, now you'd need to go to a casino for a live game round here. I'll still play online on occasion but I prefer live games.

I'm trying to teach myself poker, no-one really plays in my social circle, anyone know the best way to learn?

Read up on the basics online like winning hands, blinds etc. then get on Sky Poker and play the 2p/4p games and don't go mental with raising or going all in untill you know what you're doing. Remember that being dealt a hand of 2♢ and Q♧ isn't a good hand and most people will fold or check but it's obviously down to the individual and who you are playing against.

I did read about it, but it's the checking and raising of the bets I'm finding difficult to understand and the big blinds and small blinds.  I just don't get that part, I know it's probably so simple, but the sites I've read what they're saying makes no sense to me.

I learned by playing yahoo poker not sure if its still on the go. Its for virtual chips so its extremely unrealistic as everyone just raises but you get a feel for the game and should pick up on the blinds and checking raising.

I know the rules and how to play but have zero patience so rarely win as I just start raising and going all in to get it over with. My old man plays in pubs 2-3 times a week and can sit all night just just biding his time and wins quite often.
