  1. There are loads of decent Scottish managers have went down South and it's not worked out. Walter Smith was sacked by Everton in his only spell managing in England. There is more to it than just their ability as a manager. McInnes has done well as a manager. I reckon he must be holding out for something else although it's definitely a big risk on his part.
  2. I'd say we are banking more on other players leaving, rather than Europe. The Barton, Hill and Senderos wages from last season will cover the first 3/4 signings of this season. Anything beyond that will be an increase in the wage bill so I reckon once 4/5 players are in we may need to get players off the wage bill before others arrive.
  3. Nowhere near as bad imo. Hearts had built a decent squad that year with some decent players. We reached the last 16 of the champions league, first scottish team to do so and were one Boyd sitter away from the quarters. A crap season domestically but I wouldn't say humiliating.
  4. It's on the playing squad. Not just transfer fees. So it includes the wage bill for players.
  5. He never said he was staying at Aberdeen mate. He said a few times he has a job to do at Aberdeen and that was what he was concentrating on. In fact his answers to me made it clear he wanted the job. If I was him and I had wanted the job I would be pissed off as well so can't blame him if he is. I still think McInnes would have been the best and most sensible choice for manager. Saying that I 100% back Caixinha in the role and hope he proves me wrong.
  6. The problem is we can't afford to bring in new players without releasing some.
  7. I wouldn't say celebrating a last minute winner in football is ever embarrassing. But quite a few people are still saying Euro qualification was the reason. It definitely wasn't. The celebrations were more to do with getting us out of a whole. If we had followed up last week with a defeat to Partick it would have been unimaginable. Instead the team showed they had a bit of character and quickly turned that defeat into a win. A win made all the better for the way the Partick fans were going on before it.
  8. That is a ridiculous punishment. Forcing a player with a gambling problem into early retirement. Hope he appeals it and it's heavily reduced.
  9. His statements were taken out of context. Rangers are expected to win trophies. Birmingham City are not. He also said the UEFA Cup would have been his choice but at the end of the day it is about winning things and we fell short at the final hurdle. I believe he has also commented on this since he said it. Its not something I would have said as it causes headlines like these, but he is referring to size of footballing achievement. He is effectively comparing size of club to size of competition won.
  10. This 100%. With the way some people are reacting it's as if he is going to be joint manager. Due to the role he would be filling, it's low risk. Unfortunately some fans just don't like him (something I find impossible to relate to) and that's the way they will always see it.
  11. Currently I wouldn't be too bothered to see him sold. Saying that, I genuinely think if he is played as a centre forward for a run of games and with decent service he would score a decent amount of goals.
  12. In fact nearly everything in that banner is wrong. There is more there that applies to their own club.
  13. That banner is classless. It would be very easy to turn that whole thing around on them but in truth all we need at Hampden is this.......
  14. McInnes might not be the big name some fans want but he is 100% no way a poor manager. You've got to remember the sheep have had the 3rd biggest budget for quite some time so there are obviously other factors that prevented the dozen or so managers before McInnes fail in getting them to the position he has managed to. His win ratio with them is around 57%. He's reached 3 finals winning 1. As for the tims how close were you really expecting him to get to them? I'm making a rough guess here but up until last season they would probably have had a budget 1/7th of celtic. This season more likely a 1/10th. Yet they have pushed them a couple of times into at least Feb/March. Over a season a far superior budget will nearly always prevail towards the end. And to agree with a previous post, he had a good football brain as a player and you can see that when he manages. We don't need an expensive/foreign/unknown who will try and implement a system in Scotland that may not work. We need someone Scottish who knows the game in this country and knows how to manage and win.
  15. Some good points but I don't think you can write off what he's achieved because the previous dozen or so sheep managers were apprently crap managers. He should be credited for doing what every one of them failed to do. Their budget is a bit higher than Hibs Hearts etc but you've still got to achieve that and for whatever reason a lot of managers couldn't do that at the same club. His win ratio is about 56% or 57%. No matter what other factors there are, that is high for a club of their size. Also I don't think we can afford to worry about how stylish our football is so as for how they play I don't care. Results are paramount. We want someone who knows football in Scotland. That's why I think McInnes is our best bet just now taking all things into account.
  16. Totally disagree mate. He's got a better record against them than any of their managers as far back as I can remember. The sheep were always getting well beat off them and raising their game for us. That's not a McInnes thing, that's a historical thing. He's established them again as a top 4 team, won them a trophy and got to other finals. I can understand some people having reasons they don't want him but he is definitely not an awful manager.
  17. There are no managers that tick all the boxes but McInnes ticks most. DeBoer is another massive risk our club cannot afford to take just now, that's assuming he would come to us. For me, best option for us is McInnes: Scottish manager; managed in Scotland; successful as a manager; can get best out of players; can work on limited funds and be a success; won't take silly money contract to get him.
  18. People totally off the mark with this. A few points: 1. He's not said anything that would rule him out the job. 2. He obviously wants the job otherwise he would just categorically say "I'm not going to Rangers and I am not interested". Which he hasn't. 3. He is merely paying lip service to the people who currently pay his wages in the event he stays there. 4. People saying they don't get what he's achieved. It's clear he is a decent manager and can work in a budget and can get a team well organised, harder to beat and playing well. It's hard to say otherwise considering what he done at St Johnstone and aberdeen.
  19. I reckon I'm in the minority but even if he would come to us I don't think he is the right choice for us. Reasons: 1. We shouldn't be bringing anyone in because of how big a name they are but how good a fit they are regarding all factors. 2. I personally don't think a foreign coach is the right choice just now. We need someone Scottish/British, and preferably someone who has a good knowledge of the Scottish game and has played in it as well as successfully managed in it. 3. Going for a manager who has been excellent for one club is risky. There are other factors which contribute to manager big successful. We should be going for someone who has been to multiple clubs and done well. 4. Managing Ajax in the Dutch league means you have a lot more money and resources than other clubs around you. We are in a different position than that at the moment. We therefore need a manager who can get the best out of players that were brought in by someone else and work on a limited budget when required. 5. Footballing ethos or philosophy is a positive but it's not always the case that it can be applied successfully in different teams or leagues. Warburton is a good example. Whether it's because of funds or an unwillingness to change from that philosophy, the risk is still there. 6. Cost of failure. If De Boer was appointed and fails, the cost of fixing that is massive and someone we simply cannot afford just now. I believe in going for the safest option and I don't think De Boer is it.
  20. Still remember that match. Barnes and Dalglish played for Middlesborough. Stuart Pearce and Robbie Fowler played for us. Gazza played a half for each team. Fowler scored a header. Edit: And Bryan Robson and Chris Waddle played for them as well.
  21. Very much doubt that mate as a club could technically have several managers if they wished to. You could also just make them a "caretaker manager" if you wanted to make the job title different.
  22. Maybe not. There are no guarantees anyone is though. I'm of the opinion we need someone who knows scottish football and has managed in it. We also need someone who can get the best out of players and work on a budget. Long term plans are no use to us when there are no guarantees.
  23. McLeish to end of season. Frank De Boer will rule himself out soon. Derek McInnes will be appointed in the summer. That's how I see it panning out now.
